Amazon Cavalry? (FINISHED PICS August 29)
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:56:45 PM »
So I've got a sizeable army of the Wargames Factory Amazons (pictures forthcoming, honest), and I wanted to add cavalry.  Does anyone know of a good (and cost-effective) solution for this?  The Amazon legs are not suitable for reposing into a mounted pose, and their waists are really slender.  Someone on the Wargames Factory forums did a conversion with WF Persians, but it's a) really expensive for a unit and b) not as clean a join as I like.

Anyone else have suggestions?

You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

Good - wait for the Croc Kickstarter Amazons to be available next year.

Cost Effective - Hmmm....

Foundry has some, probably too expensive?

Eureka isn't that expensive though:

I am not sure if the old Fantasy Warriors range by Copplestone had amazons
Edit:
Yes they had and have

riding sabretooth tigers

or You can alternatively use the wood elves from the same system, who look female enough with latene equipment and have lots of cavalry

I should clarify - I would like if possible to use the WF Amazons, but these are all good food for thought and I'll probably end up off on a tangent with them.

I'll check that out!  Are they scaled compatibly?

I have only the hussars, not the amazons
but I guess since the Perry male legs are smallish to the WF female bodies, it should fit

plus on a horse it's not that obvious  :D
if the girls have long legs, they are classy
if they have smaller legs, they are petite

winwin situation  ;)

Froggy,
Try turning the foot Amazons into cavalry with heat.  Buy some of the extra horse sprues and assemble the horses.  Light a match and hold it briefly to the lower limbs of the Amazon.  Try to re-pose the legs, and then "mold" onto the horse.  I've done it with many figures in the past, and never had a problem.  Another way would be to use the German cavalry by WF, who with less clothing, likely have smaller waists.

I ended up cutting and pasting, using the mounted hips from a Reaper knight for the hip bend and chainmail skirt.

Here's a completed leader, a queen's standardbearer, a cavalry standardbearer, and a proof of concept for using the Amazon lower legs instead of the pewter ones.

I figure the Amazons are ahistorical anyway, why not have them borrow just a couple battlefield practices from the Romans?  Who knows, maybe the Romans borrowed it from them.

Here's a shot of what I did with everything in the box.  I've still got four leftover horses, but those will wait for another time.

I envision these as fast light cavalry that will harry the enemy's flanks with spears, probably give them the ability to use their Shoot action in the middle of a Move action, probably at a -1.  These are NOT designed to see frontal combat.

you could upload them to LAF gallery or attach directly to the post.

Or it's only me who doesn't see them?

I don't believe I've explored those options.  At any rate, it's fixed.

Yes, it works now, thanks.

And I like what I see now a lot, a great bunch and some clever conversion ideas there.
