Pulp Alley -- Dangerous Driving & Thrilling Crashes
« on: July 30, 2013, 05:34:08 AM »

Mila and I are moving forward with updating and clarifying the Vehicle rules for Pulp Alley.

In addition to the rules for basic automobiles, we're also playtesting rules for armored cars, tanks, airplanes, and more...

As always, we could use your help. So please let us know what you'd like to see in the Pulp Alley vehicle rules. And if you have any interest in playtesting some of the new vehicles rules, please feel free to PM me directly.

If we can get enough playtesting done, I'm thinking we may have this finished within a month and released in PDF format only. Gentlemen, start your engines!! ...

Wacky Races?

We've been messing with the beta rules you sent me several months ago, and enjoying them. People crashing cars has become a regular thing in our PA games... it has in fact become part of our pulp lore, that our pulp games end with every vehicle crashed (including a wagon, a few games ago) and every dog dead!

PM sent for the latest version!

I have to admit, I enjoy seeing the cars wreck and explode!  lol lol

The basic mechanics have remained mostly the same as the beta-test version, but we've made a couple minor changes based on playtesting and feedback from players. Mostly, we've tried to explain everything much better and added more examples.

I'll get some pages over to you pretty soon, Brian (maybe a day or two).

Yup, I think this is pretty important. Boats will follow most of the basic vehicle mechanics, but will have 3 fairly simple differences -- just to make it feel right. AND we're testing 'flying boats' as well!  :D

Wacky Races?

We've already been doing some races as we keep playtesting the basic mechanics, and they have been lots of fun! We've also been working on a new Resource table (Gear Points) for some cool and wacky vehicle modifications.  lol

As always our goal is to keep everything fast, fun, and easy to play. So far I'm really happy with how well everything is playtesting.

More to come...

Dave,
Would love to try these out. I have a bunch of cars for my mobsters which just tend to sit there acting as scenery at the moment.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Cool, Ian. I'll shoot you a few pages to try out.

The goal here, is to make it easy to include cars, boats, planes, and such in a game -- without bogging the game down or shifting the focus off the story/scenario.

...and tanks!  :D

...and giant alien walkers from Mars!  lol lol

Completely forgot about these first thing this morning while getting ready for today's Pulp Alley game!  :-[

Mind you, we did try the Weird League rules for the first time, and found them to be good. And weird. The Shadow is a creepy sod, especially when he uses his gifts to seemingly teleport straight through solid stone walls and vanish right in front of multiple witnesses.

We also had five people playing today, a local record for a Pulp Alley game, and the system still chugs along quite nicely with five players and thirty figures on the table!

I think that's one of the best versions of The Shadow I've seen. Using the Dark Pact bonuses was a excellent idea!

We've been really happy with how well Pulp Alley plays with larger groups. I think we'll need to come up with even more scenarios for 4+ players.

THANKS

With the main rulebook and expansions do you think their will be a compendium on the horizon with everything in it? much like the Gaslight Compendium
