Vietnam in 6mm - list of manufacturers
« on: October 28, 2013, 02:32:31 PM »
Hi guys,

I'd like to put together some 6mm vietnam forces. Fancy a bit of gaming in the period and scale obviously.

I'm happy to buy from different ranges to get the creme of the crop as it were.

Would obviously want hueys, jeeps and armoured vehicles. Even NVA equipment. Oh and a few planes too.

So please, leave any links that you think are appropriate!

Cheers

Although i am 'into Nam' i only play 28mm. However, there is someone on LAF that does 6mm. And he posted some pictures quite recently so it should not be a problem to find him. I think he will know about manufacturers.

Well if you want quality and price isn't an issue then the first port of call will need to be GHQ: http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/modern-micro-armour-vietnam-riverine.html

Those are some great figures and vehicles! Sold on that lot.

Suppose all I'm looking for now is NVA vehicles, helicopters and aircraft. Any experts out there?

Oh and some jeeps/trucks.

GHQ do those as well:

http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/modern-micro-armour-warsaw-pact.html

Superb models: bloody expensive but no doubting the quality (if the amazing surface detail is all way out of scale).

Other "all you need" option and my personal choice for micro armour is Heroics/Ros:

Not nearly as detailed but still good, and true 1/300 rather than GHQ 1/285, but far cheaper.

Check out this thread. Pibber's work is beyond amazing. It's pretty much all you need.

I did a Charlie Don't Surf demo game a few years back and had a blast.

Cracking stuff there. it really seems that GHQ is the way to go. Mind you they do seem a tad pricey but you get what you pay for!

I think much if not all of the main vehicles are available in 3 mm too.

Gracias,

Glenn

Edit: in the USA - http://www.picoarmor.com/ (I don't a link top the O8 (Oddzial Osmy) site itself though I know they are on FaceBook)  but UK people can access http://www.fighting15sshop.co.uk/oddzial-osmy-172-c.asp for them.

Quite right. Although CinC are damn close in quality, but cheaper...

I have a bit of bias in that I paint for GHQ, but I think they're the best.  :D
C in C are very nice as well; I haven't seen anything else worth buying.

For aircraft, Raiden/I-94 are pretty good too, haven't seen any others.

Ah, seeing the warsaw pact vehicles has given me even more ideas.

Always wanted to do Vietnam but a cold war gone hot set of figures between the ruskies and yanks is really yanking the chains of appeal. That'd certainly make it easier to run straight up battles.

Hmmm, going to have to mull this over a bit more than I originally thought!

Cheers peeps.

Hi No arguing that the GHQ kit is lovely but the helos are rather pricey if you are 'going airmobile'! I'd suggest taking a look at Heroics and Ros for (not quite as nice - but much cheaper!) helos and aircraft, here:

http://www.heroicsandros.co.uk/

Alternatively you could look at Irregular miniatures - I find they look better painted than they do 'in the metal' and I find basing the Irregular infantry strips much less hassle than dealing with H&R or GHQ single figures!

While you are looking at GHQ remember that Magister Militum also sell the old 'Hallmark' 6mm infantry including 'Nam era Americans and Vietnamese! for my money the Hallmark infantry stands are the 'best buy' as they are mostly all prone so much more 'combat realistic' than all those standing & running GHQ guys.

Cheers

Heroics and Ros seems to have a few bits worth having.

Re GHQ again. Am I being incredibly obtuse or is the site hard to navigate? There are now links on this thread to Warsaw pact vehicles for instance but I can't seem to find it by following the tabs on the website.

I guess it's case of knowing what you're looking for?

GHQ - catalogue - micro armour modern - micro armour former Warsaw Pact - tanks or whatever?

Not so bad?

There is also the Combat Command by GHQ boxed set for Vietnam.
http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/vn150.html
This is something that I painted for GHQ.

It isn't the easiest site to browse.

On mixing ranges bear in mind GHQ are 1/285th and H&R are 1/300th, and figures wise H&R are quite small, and there's the old range and the newer range, while GHQ are on the larger side.

You can get an idea of that here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bob_mackenzie/6mm%20Infantry%20Comparison.htm

The best supplier in the UK for GHQ and CinC I found was http://www.wargamesemporium.co.uk/
