For the sake of being accurate, I'd be going for this scheme, though maybe a bit rustier.

I may have missed it in this thread but what color or colors do you use for your rust?

Going by the Games Workshop colour palette (as the model shop by me now thinks its a card game/toy shop and so doesn't buy in paints anymore):

Start with a Abaddon Black basecoat. Cover everything in Doombull Brown (reddish brown colour). Heavy drybrush over that with Skag Brown(orange/brown colour) (optionally then ink wash the thing in Fuegan Orange and then give it a drybrush of Skag Brown again, plush maybe a wash of Agrax Earthshade). Give it a drybrush of ratskin flesh (light orange). After that maybe flick on some Jokaero Orange (pure orange) and then give the whole thing and any edges a drybrush of a thick white. Then maybe dirty the thing up with some brown ink or drybrushing on some brown or cream over the odd bit.

...So a range of maybe six colours, mostly oranges and browns. It sounds like a lot of work, but as its mostly drybrushing you can power through it all fairly quickly as the paint drys fast. Probably could have explained that all better. Literally just stick down some reddish brown, then start drybrushing on random shades of orange with some white every now and then till you're happy. I could probably stick in more metallic colours, but that's my tried and tested method (I remember reading an article once in a magazine that listed a load of ways to achieve different types of rust, might fish it out sometime).

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I have most of those colors on hand thankfully. I'll be giving this a try for sure.

Love the new Legionnaires and the Vault elevator.

I feel like you took the difficult path in sculpting it though. I would have used a Frisbee as a base and card cut outs for details. Having said that, what you made looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing it painted.

I was going to do that, but as with all things, I was too lazy to walk along to the shops that day to buy the materials and instead just used what was at hand. ;)

Mad Max is just out and we've had the Fallout 4 trailer, so now the tshirt site Qwertee's came out with another two designs based on the Mad Max series (with a bonus Vault Boy appearance). Not models, but I may as well plug that site anyway. You can buy the shirts for the next 48 hours over there (though the price goes up slightly after the first 24).

Hey I haven't bought from that site in months because all they've had is Marvel and anime crap that whole time. I see something even tangenty related to Fallout and I'm having it!

Yeah I was totally wearing my Fallout 3 t-shirt yesterday. :)

Well as I can't do much with the Vault elevator, I went back and finished the Legionnaires that I'd set aside to work on that. Here's the three Recruits and Veteran for your perusal.

So that's four guys, which when put along with whichever of my existing Legion models I can salvage, gives me enough for a party to use in games. The Legion haven't been seen for months now (neither has the NCR) as I shelved most of what I came out with early in this blog. Now at least I have some models that fit in with their in-game representation a little better, and are more on par with my current standards (not that they're particularly high). :D

These guys look great, and I can't wait to see how that vault entrance looks when done. How tall is it?

Lol. Fair enough. Your results are great either way.

Painted Legionnaires are looking spiffy.

I got one too! :D thanks for the heads up- I hadn't seen that site before.

Those Romans look good. Suitably post apocalyptic gladiators. I like the 'Spaniard' on the right ;) (Que Hans Zimmer)

Cheers
Matt.
