....  Is the large stone slab/hill something that you made?

Yes. My older brother carved it out of foam, coated it in gesso and then we finished it off.
I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that in the OP.

The Egyptian stuff turns over fast at Wal-Mart.  We must not be the only ones who like it!

You mean maybe someone GASP is using aquarium decor in their aquarium?
In all seriousness, turnover is good.
Maybe this way they'll keep it in stock, and or come up with new Egyptian stuff for us.

Deep in the trackless wastes in the desert West of Karnak, is supposed to lie the Well of the Gods. A fabled place of legend where a man can find Wealth untold and the secret to everlasting life. But stories also tell that the Gods of the Well are fickle and cruel. How do men of science find out the answers? By finding the Well and seeing for themselves.

The well as first seen by Prof. Hofstedder's expedition, merely a ruin with no sign of any Gods.
Any statuary having been looted or destroyed long ago.

But wait, what is happening? Quick take a picture!

What is that thing? Arggggggggggggggg....

Well I found where my sand colored board was stashed and took these quick pics of the well I made from a CDRom, blue foam and some Hirst left overs. There is enough room in the well for a 1" round base to be placed making it good for cover. The center pedestal I left open for whatever, if anything, is required by the scenario or more likely because i didnt have anything suitable for an Egyptian Fountain.  :D

Here is a Pharaoh head, $27

and a Sphinx, same price

You can probably find them cheaper other places online and without having to support Wal-mart.

If I recall correctly, wasn't there a Dr. S. Cooper on that expedition as well?

The well looks great, another idea to copy. I like the way it looks.

Amalric - I noted in both this and some other earlier posts (on other threads) you mentioned using brown (maybe dark brown) as a base coat followed by lighter acrylic coats....with the base possibly being a spray coat base.

As someone with no personal intrinsic originality (a simple thief of my betters), could you detail the paints and layers?  I have a fair amount of Egyptian landscape that I am trying to bring into uniformity.

...As someone with no personal intrinsic originality (a simple thief of my betters)...

Whilst I shall endeavour to properly attribute this succinct definition of my own character flaw, I make NO promises...

For years now I've claimed to be the least creative person alive, yet I am at once well versed in, and adept at, either interpretation or edition.

You Sir, say it so much more eloquently.

How can I fail to steal this and make it my own?

Thank you!!

Gents,
Here is what I used.
The paints are Americana brand  'craft paints' I get cheap at Hobby Lobby.

Base -Burnt Umber [this is a generic dark brown]

Heavy Drybrush  -Desert Sand [this is the main color of the ruins, a wonderful slightly yellowish sand color]
-you want the piece to be mainly this color with the dark brown showing only in the cracks, hieroglyphics, etc.

Light Drybrush -Bleached Sand [a very light bone color/off white ]
-I drybrushed this onto the high points, corners, etc. to make details pop

For the base coat on the larger plastic/resin pieces I used a dark brown spray paint.

I hope this helps.
And its not theft, as none of the above is original to me.
The great thing about this forum is the wealth of information/inspiration freely shared.

I look forward to seeing your ruins.
 :)

Well, well, well, what do we have here?  ;) Quite a nice piece. It may be due to that episode of Savage Sword of Conan I re-read recently, but I half expected an eldritch horror to be sleeping beneath it...

Amalric, congratulations on getting a great addition to your Egyptian terrain.  I should tell you that after reading your posting I went to Walmart and got lucky and found that they had one of your seated pharaohs still on the shelf… I bought it.  Richard

I do like the look of this and War In 15MM's thread is fantastic. What's this piece called and who makes it?

Mad Lord, the name of the piece is Great Adventure of Lost Kingdom Playset.   I took another look at the boxes mine came and found that in very small letters they says AGGCO Corp. Ltd.   According to the boxes mine were produced in 2003.  Amalric's might be a newer production of it and perhaps by another company.  More importantly, he may have a source where others can be purchased.  I got mine at the swap meet so I can't help with a source.  Glad you enjoyed my temple complex.  Richard
