Very cool how a new roof and a removable veranda change the character of a building; when I saw the first sepia photo I wondered where the building was sourced from but wouldn't have guessed it was from a Middle Eastern range!

I've sometimes thought about doing alternate roofs for some of my buildings to change their character and expand the range of locations they can be used in, but this very cool project just reinforces that the roof swap and some details really do work to "relocate" a building.

Love the idea of converting a kit, to exactly what you wanted.

Yes, that is townhouse #2 hiding under there

It came out much better than I hoped.  Wasn't sure if I could pull it off with the windows, but I don't think it's too bad.

And thanks again for the feedback everyone!  I have two more buildings in the works, so hope to have more photos over the next month.

Marvellous!
and very inspiring ...

The only missing part is a large scale/balance on front of it

I completely agree, superb building!!

Argsilverson, a scale is a great idea!  Anyone know where I could find one?
Chris

A scale seems to be very difficult to find! (actually there was some similar discussion a couple of years earlier here in LAF but I cannot relocate it).

~

But a small weighing scales or platforms for  outdoors use, I think it is easy to be scratchbuilt.
A rectangular or round plastic piece, suspended by 3 or 4 chains from a hook and a rod to represent the counterbalance.

Ah and a rocking chair outside the building!

How about THIS?

It is a humble pencil sharpener!!!

Note the orifice to the right of the platform.

It is actually a bit tall for 28mm, so I'll probably cut down the base some. or remove it.
The beam will then need to extend through whatever porch or deck it sits upon.
Trimming the support arms for the tray would work too.
Or cannibalise the entire thing & use the parts free form.

I probably over-paid when I gave 'em $4 for mine, BUT it WAS there when I stumbled across it, no further effort needed to acquire.

Now I just need a building to go behind, & under, it...

I would love to have something like this...

And it's a shame that there isn't one available in resin or white metal...

Then again, it's not a very complicated scratchbuild either.  ;)

Nice ideas on the scales - thanks!  I'll have to go back and work on that after I get the remaining buildings done.

Ok, a few new buildings as I start the German boma for my settlement:

Administrative Office/Officer's Quarters

Askari Barracks

I still need to wall in the compound and add some additional elements, but I'm happy with the start.  If you want more details on how the first building was put together, you can find more info and photos on the blog:

Thanks!
Chris
