A little overdue but I have now finished 96 of these!



Still enjoying it all. I have promised myself not to buy neither Warlord nor Wargames Factory plastics again. The Warlord ones are actually decent, but I simply detest putting together plastics and having to scrape off mould lines... I find metal miniatures are less problematic with regards to this. So no more plastic Zulu for me. Unless the Perry's make some... then I will buy those.

So for the next 96 I will go for metal miniatures. There are plenty to choose from.

Thanks.  The project was originally meant for triumph and tragedy bit I think I will attempt to go all the way to black powder.

I am going to paint Zulu, Mexicans and Texians in 2014.

Any Zulu army worth its salt would have a lot of figures. I don't like painting loads of similar figures.
So in order to have just a reasonable chance of completing some Zulu I have chosen to use the method described below.


Here is the first test Zulu:



I simply painted the entire figure with a gloss brown spray, blocked in the details and washed it with a black wash (Army Painter).

I then painted up the colours again.

I think the result is good. In fact better than hoped for. And within the realm of realism with regards to completing 64 of the blighters.

With results as good as this I have to ask, where did you get the brown gloss spray and which manufacture?

I believe it was a Plastikote brown standard spray. Nothing special.

I a aiming at a modest 400 though. It will be a couple of years yet.

I finally found out how to base it all so that is well.

It is the 21108 chestnut brown.

About the tut - I will happily do so... Once I get some Zulu. I ran out.

But it was very simple. Block colours Armypainter Dark Tone and then colour again. Eyes, tongues etc ad libitum.
