Defiance Games Bugs - Do they actually exist?
« on: August 03, 2014, 12:31:26 PM »
I'm looking for some Alien bugs for my Ultimate Alliance project, and looking around, the Alien War bugs look like they'd fit the bill and my budget. The only problem is I'm not sure that they're real. I can find a very few images online and no one seems to actually stock them, not even Defiance themselves. I admit that I didn't follow the Alien War kickstarter, so there may be something I'm missing, but can I actually get these minis?

I have a box. Acquired it through the bazaar here on LAF. Dunno how the previous owner managed to get 'em. I also thought they were a myth until I actualy got these in my hands...
While they look the part, they were a bitch to work with. very brittle material, bubbles, mould lines and even displaced mould errors.
For now they've been primed. Still deciding what color scheme to use.

Defiance don't produce or stock anything. I don't think they're officially out of business but they don't seem to operate anymore. The only Defiance stuff available is already out there.

As others have said, you've got to either find them second hand or as stock on hand at a dealer. Any backorders on Defiance games product is asking for disappointment.  Defiance games may not be officially out of business, but they've been incommunicado at their website, facebook, forum and Kickstarter for at least 3 (possibly 5) months now.

If you need cheap bugs, there are still occasional deals to be had on new old stock Starship troopers bugs.

Best of luck

They've rocketed in price in the last year, if you can find them. I started tracking them down about two years ago and I was getting boxes of arachnid warriors for around a tenner each, now they're £25 plus each. The plasma bugs are around £30, the tanker I've seen go for £85 and others are similar. The MI troopers are the most widely available now, and the worst figures of the range IMHO, and they're £20 a set.

Eureka still do some GZG bugs but they're small, about the size of the Defiance ones, GZG don't really do them any more because their moulds are worn out and there's not the sales to justify it.

I did buy a Galoob toy tanker bug, which suffices but it's not the mammoth the Mongoose one was.

I got me a box about two years ago. Well, that's when I paid for one anyway. I finally got it after almost half a year's wait. Coincidentally, right about the time when I started demanding my money back...  ::)

Product is nice enough, but they have some of the worst service and communication I ever encountered...  :-[

Looking for Alien Bugs
« Reply #6 on: August 04, 2014, 12:42:58 AM »
Thanks guys. I had a quick look on ebay, found some of the worms, but no bugs.

What I need is 20-30 Alien Bugs for 28mm to work as Annihilation Wave:

Due to the amount of bugs I need, I was hoping for something plastic, but the big deal will be cost, as they'll only really be used for a demo game, then shoved in the garage. The Alien War bugs would have been perfect, but being near-impossible to get, I'll need to find something else.

I have considered using Tyranid plastics, but I'd need to change the heads and my sculpting skills fall a little short. Any ideas?

You could always try for some Heroclix Brood warriors.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

If you can get it for cheaper, which can be the case, the Starship Troopers starter set comes with 20 warrirors if I remember right. Except your going to be spending about $70 to $80 USD last I saw. Me and a buddy got into it a few years ago and bought a bunch of stuff, except we never played a single game. I should see if wants to sell his Bug army to me.

And I believe its Rebel Minis who has the molds to some of the bugs. Spider, Burrower and a few others. Sadly your still going to be spending some money on it for a "army" type set up. Thinking about getting a few for my Stargate game.

Migth as well ask 'Defiance Games - do they actually exist' - tony has his money, nothing else matters. He'll have a new company running soon, with a KS and the same fools will chuck money at him again.  ;D

After a brief look at what's happening over at the (in)famous hardsuit KS, I strongly doubt they do.
