Would it be possible to make a mold for casting the needed number of legs?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I am thinking about it... especially if I plan to get more of them.

I reckon I could sculpt 3 or 4 pairs of legs and maybe use Blue Stuff and Milliput to cast them up... but I am not worrying about it at the moment because I have a few other things on the go :)

Eek those mantic figures are huge!
I was hoping they would pass as powered armour for my grymn!
I preferred the angular look to the softer rounded look of HFs own.

Hmm....

Your conversions on the other hand look good. I'm not keen on squats though and the dumpy ess of them would put me off. However if you like the squat aesthetic then your work is utterly brilliant!

Your disappointment in the size of them is definitely shared :( .

I like both the Grymn look and the Squat look (I think it is purely from nostalgia) and fully understand why people don't like the Squat's lack of knees etc. that said, I am fully invested in my Squat army now so I need to keep going (only another hundred or so :o ).

I have ordered some blue stuff (for press moulding) and am in the process of sculpting 3 pairs of Squat legs to go with the Steel Warrior kits so I am hoping that I can replicate enough legs (probably with a mix of Milliput and Green Stuff) to convert all of my 20 Steel Warriors.

I need to decide how I am going to deal with some of the weapons to prevent them dragging on the floor but that will come when I have a few assembled with their new legs :)

I certainly haven't given up hope :)

I love all things dwarf, but hated the Gw squat aesthetic. They were just cartoony and comic. They lost all of the dour grim functional appeal to me.

Putting that aside though, I'm certain that you can do the remodelling job justice. How will you handle abdominal and pelvic armoured? I think that might be the key.

As to your issue with oversized forearms ... Doesnt everyone's weapon drag on the ground?

 :o

Hopefully, I can work out how to get some decent casts because I've already started on three pairs of legs for the Steel Warriors:

Still a long way to go.

Well, I've finished the first 'leg blank':

I will be press moulding this and then adding pouches etc to the casts. I think that the legs have turned out OK (not awesome... just OK) but if the pressmoulding works, it will add a new dimension to how I produce the legs. If it doesn't work, I will have to get them cast up for me... so we'll have to see.

this afternoon, I have been messing around with Blue Stuff / Instant Mould and I currently have a little cast drying in the stuff. I just put a standard plastic Squat body in there, just to see how it turns out. It will be squashed after I have seen what I need to :)  . I am using a mix of Green Stuff and Milliput in the mould so now it's just a case of sitting and waiting for a couple of hours :) .

This could be the start of a beautifull friendship (or not :o )....

I'll just be ticking along with the leg sculpting because they are a bit down the list of things to complete for the army... the first being the unit of Primaris Psykers / Jedi Beastmen... which, by chance, I have now finished:

I still need to adjust the base to tilt him forward a little but I am glad to have his sculpting done. Next up will be the three Ministorum Priests / Squat Berserkers... but I haven't started them yet.

As is usually the case, there is more information on the Blog:

Back to the Squats and here is the first WIP of one of the Ministorum Priests / Squat Berserkers:

Still a long way to go but this head sort of sculpted itself so I just went with it. The other two are not as far along as this one... but I guess it's a start :D .

Do you only sculpt for yourself, or do you do commissions for one or more of the miniatures companies?

Your talent would definitely be sufficient for professional use!

Cheers :)

I will end up scuplting miniatures for sale but definitely not for the next year or so... I am in the process of a life changing event which will take a good 6 to 8 months and will mean new work, new home, new area, new life and hopefully a new puppy :)

I would suspect that, when I move, I will also need to dedicate a certain amount of hobby time towards making the house nice too... so timelines are extremely flexible :)

Then I'd need to find a company that was crazy enough to take my work as I am very unreliable and fickle and would find it very difficult to sculpt a range rather than individual miniatures... but you never know :)

I must admit to having quite a good week... I've started the second Berserker:

I have also been doing a bit of press moulding:

The results and a bit more information can be found on my latest blog post:

http://insosworld.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/press-moulding-fun.html

With my thoughts on my hobby on the post that follows the one above... or if you want a link:

Add to that lots of life stuff going on and I think things have been pretty good this week :D .
