Absolutely mental. I can't believe how organic you made it look. I have a feeling a lick of paint will make it indistinguishable from the real thing.

Yes, I actually took it off and am keeping it specially for you  >:D

lol lol lol hahahahahaha lol lol lol, just a small rattle of James's cage. ;)

I have a rock for you as well  >:D >:D

Makes my trusty cork cliffery look decidedly inadequate.

Given how many different rock types there are there is certainly a place for cork and your Boer wadi (can't remember the proper term) is one of my favourites  :)

Got a simple coat of primer on it before the daylight sodded off. Needs a bit of touching up here and there though. The primer coat was done with my new compressor and airbrush (just a cheapy from Lidl but certainly does the job) and a few more layers in differing colours similar to the real pictures above.

Hopefully get it finished at the weekend...

cheers

James

Between a rock and an arse place?

The cliffs are tremendous James, you've really captured the look and feel of their real life counterparts.

Brill James! ! :-* :-* :-*

Are you planning on air brushing a few more colours through there before you highlight? Going by your reference pics mate, it'd look good with a few more shades, then bring it together with a dry brush over top.

Gets better and better. Tech question: I've never used blue foam but I'm thinking about building some hills with it. What do you use as the primer/ sealer?

Very good  lol

Yes, I'm going to try and get a few layers done so it looks a bit more sedimentary. Might look odd though as we're so used to wargaming terrain.

Tech question: I've never used blue foam but I'm thinking about building some hills with it. What do you use as the primer/ sealer?

Anything acrylic or emulsion based so it doesn't react with the foam. Most aerosols are have solvents in them which destroy parts of the foam.

You can buy acrylic sprays and I'm sure that some off the shelf ones are also acrylic but I couldn't tell you which ones  :?

I did find a foam in the builders merchants across the road from work that had silver foil on both sides which didn't react with sprays but the texture was more like oasis foam that florists used and wasn't the best for sculpting with.

cheers

If I ever use foam for scenery, I always give it a liberal splosh of PVA to seal it. You can then spraypaint it with whatever you like :)
But beware - if you leave any little bits un-PVA'd, they will get eaten away like a spaceship corridor with alien-drool on it...

Looks bloody brilliant James. The thing I actually like best is the way you've trowelled the 'sand' onto the beach. So it looks like real wet sand marked by the receding tide. It's a lovely, subtle touch. Most people would have made a perfectly smooth, sandy beach. But you, sir, have once again, proved your quality and brilliant eye for detail. I salute you. Again. Clever bastard.

Actually (and I hate to do this), that's not the final coat. It was just splodged on and is waiting to be sanded for a coat of fine sand...

Never mind eh  ;)
