Tale of an Epic Gamer - the beginning
« on: 07 January 2015, 02:52:38 PM »
I have decided to join the Tale of an Epic Gamer painting project on the TacCom forum, but thought I would share my progress here as well.

My goal is to paint at least 700 points of Epic figures each month in 2015. I hope to complete four different 2,000 point Epic 40k armies.

I have started with Orks and have made good progress so far.

You can see more details and pictures on my blog.  http://gamingandshooting.blogspot.com/2015/01/tale-of-epic-gamer-2015.html

Here is a batch of Bonecrushas.  These have been primed in white and have a yellow wash applied.  These models will make up the majority of my vehicle support for this army.  I have a good number already and they are fairly cheap to add more.

The Nobz will lead the infantry units in battle.  These guys get the same white primer and yellow wash and then the weapons were painted brass.  The bases still need to be painted and a bit of flock will be added.

Finally, no ork force is complete without some gretchin (or grots for you younger gamers).  These guys tag along to all the fights and can add some cheap numbers to your fighting force.

As you can see, the painting level is pretty basic, but for this scale, I think it is good.  I want to be able to look at the models on the table and like how they look.

I hope you enjoy these.  I will continue to post pictures as I progress though the year.

Everything looks lovely so far, nice yellow, it's quite a tricky colour but you managed fairly well, specially on the vehicles! Love them!

So I hear.  But after a bit of statistical analysis it has been determined that the improved speed characteristics do not over compensate for the increased target priority that also comes along with a red paint job.   ;)

I've finished the Nobz and Gretchin.

I also painted a test model for a detachment of Goff Gutrippas.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on this model.

Hurrah!

Really nice yellow! The goff tank isn't bad either. The washes work really well on all of them. What are those, diluted paint, GW washes, or...?

Excellent start - I look forward to seeing this progress!

The Bad Moons force is looking good.

As for the Goff tank, in my opinion, it needs a (small-ish) dash of red somewhere! :)

agreed, all very nice but the Goff tank needs something to make it stand out a bit more, and a bit of red somewhere would do it.

The base colors on these are GW washes.  I use Vallejo and Army Color paints for everything else.

I thought about that too.  I wonder if I did the skull on the front in red if that would work.

Cute as.

Only comment is the flocking looks weird - the orks are heeding the signs: "keep off the grass!"

True.  But I think I'm stuck with that.  The base hides more easily in the gravel than it would in the grass.

For 6mm I sand/gravel the whole base and then static grass/flock on top of that.

I'm doing that for some of my other Epic forces.  I have been trying to do the bases a little different for each force to make them distinctive.

I added a bit more color to the Goff Gutrippa.  I painted part of the turret and the claws in red and washed them with GW Agrax Earthshade.  I think this is a big improvement.  It isn't too much, but enough to break up the black and white.  I will be adding a base at some point as well.  Thoughts?
