Well gents, I thought it was about time I updated this thread a bit (wake up you at the back there..  ;)) with another archer;

I've been playing with different fleshtones over the last few months and especially my placement of brush strokes to achieve an effect that I am happy with at 28mm. I think I'm finally about there.  :)

I hope you like what I've settled on.

I hope you like what I've settled on.

I do, I do!

Very nicely done, it's very effective.What is it you have done differently with your brushwork this time?

Thanks again gents.  :)

Very nicely done, it's very effective.What is it you have done differently with your brushwork this time?

I've switched from the Foundry triad to Vallejo Panzer aces fleshtones, which are still in a triad, but have a more realistic, less yellowy, hue to them.

I've been mixing a mid tone between each colour too, and, as you may have noticed, not bothered painting eyes in. Mainly to save time, but also because I quite like the Perry figures without them.

Also, I've kept my paint thin and have begun to use a flow enhancer, tending to apply more thinner coats of paint rather than layering them on.

Simple stuff really, but I'd got myself sort of stuck in a rut with my painting, and needed to have a look at what I was doing.  :)

They are good, they are really really good.

For such a deceptively simple looking style of painting, you've crammed such depth of character into them. You haven't painted the pupils in the eyes, but they don't need it, because the shape of them is perfect to give the right facial expression and character. That's damn hard to do. What a great piece of work.

Great figure Ray - you've achieved great flesh tones too and I'd stick with those, looking good.
