I've been mulling over a centrepiece for my Junktown settlement for a while now. I wanted something with a bit of scale. I found one of these on Ebay and bought it as a contender a while back, but it's been gathering dust. I then had one of those weeks and the desire to build brought it out of the cupboard. It's 1/48 scale and made of various types of card.

It is, in a word, massive, and once I started thinking about putting it together I realised that its card construction was not going to be tough enough for my clumsiness, so I bought a second so I could essentially double wall everything. So far, that seems to be working.
So, I have a hangar, but what to put in it? Well despite being an old airfield, post apocalyptic Junktown mostly uses it's large assortment of refugee aircraft as a source of shelter and copper wire, so not planes. I decided to make it the home of the Junktown vehicle shop. This would give me a chance to have some fun with various 2nd and 3rd copies of vehicles I have already made and, naturally, use a ton of junk.
So rough cut layout is shown in the pics below. Each area will end up being a mini-project in it's own right. Clearly this is a very clean shot. The final product will be covered in junk, spare parts and perfectly nice models sacrificed on the altar of destruction for sheer entertainment.

A couple of shots of half the roof to give a sense of the scale and feel. The roof will be detachable and the walls will be fairly heavily corroded/dilapidated. I've also still got to work out how to actually do the roof covering so it doesn't look too neat. Not sure the original card roof will fully cut it.

Starting to post this one early because I know it will change a lot as I go and I always welcome ideas and feedback on what works and what doesn't. So, let me know what you think. I may also need a little encouragement to see this one all the way through as it's like three or four of my previous bits rolled into one. Wish me luck!
