I like that statue a lot.  It can be a bit tricky to hit that "ancient lost city" vibe but that piece really does it well.

I think bronze would look better.

Maybe hit it with a bronze dry-brush to catch the edges, and then hit the recesses with a verdigris effect?

That should change the tone of the model suitably without wasting the lovely work you've done so far.

Are we talking about the big ass statue or the smaller ones? Cause the smaller ones are done, I'm actually thinking about doing the rest of my Heroquest figures like that as well just to be done with them and get them from my bits box. On the big statue, the crowd seems to divided 1:1 Stone:Bronze.....my good luck as usual! And it is only primered right now.

A bit of recylcing and using other peoples cast offs. 2 old GW wolves, and 2 skeletons made from a bits bag, 1 using a Frostgrave Soldier body, which btw works perfectly with the newer GW skeleton bits. I just need to let this all dry and then do some Greenstuff tatters on the shoulders to tie the arms in. Square bases cause I can't find the bloody bag of round bases and these are also meant for Warhammer Quest.

(also bloody typical that  instead of painting a warband I choose to start on monsters first....ah well, priorities and all that  :D )

Oh, I thought you wanted feedback on the smaller ones.

No worries, they're good as is :)

The GW Skeleton kit is one of the nicest ones they do, great to see the bits mix well with FG soldiers.

I'd do her stone.. because you mentioned you'd one use her for post apoc.. and I think stone would look better for that.. :)

Hmm, completely forgot to make a pic of it without the rocks. We used it like that on friday and it turned out to be a nice scenic piece that was quickly fought over during the battle. I'm leaving the rocks out and will create a pool covering the hole. And I'll base the rocks as is.

I think I overdid these? Maybe a quick drybrushg with gold or keep em as is?

Well considering the fact that the Frozen City has been frozen for a 1000 years or so maybe they would have that extra patina look!

Thx chaps. Used another cheap figurine as a tester for stone by just using ever lighter tones of sand and a large bit of foam. Came out all right I reckon.

Ga'Hoole statue, somewhere in Frostgrave. It is thawing all right, creepers are taking hold of it. Skellie for scale.

35 cent thriftstore find with base, new paintjob and some flock and foliage.

Already put the owl in the cupboard :)

2 Old Plastic Games Workshop wolves that have been in my bitsbox since about the time I started doing GW games back in 1998. Rebased to smaller (and flatter) 45mmx20mm Renedra bases that seem to do them more justice. Didn't bother with greenstuff to hide the head-body join, these were quick paints to see if I could still paint figures (instead of all of the objects you have seen me paint). Grey basecoat, black wash, grey drybrush top down on most of the body and a grey+white drybrush over just the tops. Bone teeth, white and black dot for the eyes. Sure, the newer GW Wolves are much nicer, they also cost money and I had them in my bits box. Use and be happy with what you have. And these will work perfect for Frostgrave. And Mordheim. And whatever game they can appear in.

2 Armoured skeletons, the left being the newer Games Workshop skeleton, the right a mix of parts from the same Games Workshop sprue on a Frostgrave body. I can't remember having painted undead since at least when Mordheim came out, so I just looked at a few videos to get ideas and went from there. Bone spray, Deval Mud wash for the base, Vallejo Dark Sand overall, Vallejo Pale Sand highlight, done for a skeleton....I don't like the bleached skull look. The only ones I ever saw like that were the ones my fellow students bleached for their own collections, the sand colour is more natural. I've always used red a binding colour for my undead and I don't see why I should change that now. Red with a Devlan Mud wash to make it grimy. Undead don't wear shiny clothes. Undead being....dead and I doubt they give a damn... Weapons and armour went through a few trials untill I settled on just washing it all over with a brighter orange mix and calling it done. I'll go over that particular process again with the next lot, and do it better. Or different. Or the same, who knows. The weathering on the shields worked particularly well I think. Other then a few speedpainting mistakes and general sloppyness, I'm moderately happy with them. I know what look GW tried to create with the left ones skull but my painting makes him loook stoopid. Oh well.  Hey look, 2 armoured skeletons for Frostgave. And Warhammer Quest. Done.

Next game on Thursday. Looking forward to rolling new (or more of the same) monsters.

They are lovely!

I have been feeling the need to rebase my Mordheim collection on the round bases I now use for Frostgrave. Methinks those skeletons are the first to get changed.

Thx Daniel! Ain't bothered about that, I just mix and match but keep Warhammer Quest in mind. If it fits for that it is fine by me.
