Yet Another Dungeon Tile Project (Rooms and Traps added June 14)

In the year of our Lord Two-Thousand and Sixteen, I have turned my focus towards the collection of a decent 15mm fantasy...er, collection.  Got the figures, but wanted to have someplace for them to spill blood before I paint them up.  After a month or so of faffing about, I've settled on the following dungeon tile terrain system.

It's a simple 2.5d dungeon tile setup for that critical balance between usability, attractiveness, and portability.



So far I've only completed a good sized chunk of the basic tileset.  Now that I know this works, I'll start in on furniture, more tiles (still need a flight of stairs going up), and more traps than you can shake a ten foot pole at.

I like those, easy to transport as well.  Lots of good ideas on your blog as well.  Good luck with those doors, I used a 3d printer for mine.

Out of curiosity how wide have you made your corridors? I'm going to started a similar project and am gathering as much info as possible before I start.

Out of curiosity how wide have you made your corridors? I'm going to started a similar project and am gathering as much info as possible before I start.

The tiles are built on a three-inch grid system, so the outside of each corridor tile is 3".  I use a standard 1/4" balsa or basswood strip for the walls, so the width of the gamable corridor itself is 2.5" wide.  Mind you, I'm an old school guy playing at miniature wargaming with some role-playing draped over it, so I have no intention of using a grid.  My plate mailed fighting men move 3" per Turn and thats the way we likes it!

The rooms also seem really big at the moment, when no one is standing in them.  A few miniatures shrink it quick, and the instant you start plonking down furniture or set dressing of any kind, it fills up fast.

Looking good.  Is the ground going to get detailing?

I'm leaving the ground as is on the tiles themselves.  My plan is to produce a few 'inserts', or cardstock that has detailing on it, that can be placed inside rooms on an as-needed basis.  The couple I am working on right now have stone tile texture on one side and a more sci-fi steel plate and conduit aesthetic on the other.  That way these tiles can serve double duty for fantasy and sci-fi interiors.
