Urban War Viridian Colonial Marines

Done a bit more work on my shock marine. Still feeling my way with the colour scheme. I think it'll come together once the final bits and pieces are done, and the weathering should do a lot to it too. No idea what to do with the shield at the moment. It's looking alright next to my colonial marines. The green ties in well but is different enough to set them apart. I'll do something similar with the interdict drop troops when I get to them eventually as well, though a different green.

Funny you should should mention Triads, they're my second faction I've been collecting! I'd like to do some when my Viridians are done but I'm at a bit of a loss for colour scheme ideas.

I really like the urban war stuff but it is a little pricey (not GW pricey) so I tend to get other stuff first. Also I usually prioritise Fantasy. You're making me want to get some a little bit more though.

Sometimes it's just nice to see what people are doing. It also spurs you along a bit if others are also into a game or figure range, like all the Frostgrave malarkey.

I know we've already had a thread about the price of miniatures so I'm well aware there's a bit of disparity between what customers and manufacturers want from a price tag, but I have to agree that the UW stuff can be a bit pricey. The prices are a bit inconsistent as well which is bizarre. With UW being dead and Scotia having the models as more of an archive service than a product that's new and current I think a bit of a price reduction would do well to attract people, especially considering how useful the models are for other things.

Of course they would most likely be useful in my lead-pile, but still... The idea of them being useful at a reasonable price point would help add to the ballast that keeps my home right-way up in bad weather*.

*Now there's an odd allusion to the emotional benefits of the hobby if ever there was one!

They're just nice models. The only conversion work has been to swap the original pin head from the shock marine with a head from one of the later, larger shock marine sculpts (Scotia were happy to sell some spare parts at a very reasonable price). Only thing to bare in mind is that the standard colonial marines are the earlier versions (4 for £9) not the later ones that have more varied but awkward poses and no necks (and cost a hell of a lot more!).

It's been slow going getting anything done recently but I did manage to get more work done on my shock marine. I added the insignia, which took far too many attempts to get right and a load of weathering which I always enjoy doing. Just need to do the shield now.

Just a quick pic of the shield finally done on my shock marine. This has been the sticking point (one of the sticking points!) with this model. In the end I dispensed with originality and pretty much lifted the design straight from the studio paint job on Scotia's website. Now with the colour scheme and insignia sorted hopefully I'll find it a bit easier and quicker to work through the other two shock marines.
