Played a little game of Star Realms. It was our first time playing it and its fast simple and fun. The Blob forces seem a little overpowered but not so bad you cant win without using them. (We simply said you can't brag about winning until you do it without using a blob deck  ;))

Another game in our 1809 Austrian campaign.

It was an interesting game as the Austrians, with a much larger unit on the table, moved straight towards the smaller French unit, who also advanced. The French then turned and fled in front of the Austrians,  who pounced on them but failed to capitalise,  killing only one. This was a ruse by the French, however,  who followed up by bringing their own large squadron of hussars. The French trotted forward as the Austrians reformed to meet them. The French then took the initiative and plunged forward in two lines.  The melee was surprisingly one sided with the French dominating, causing casualties amongst half their ranks.

The French hussars having just chased off their Austrian counterparts found themselves in front of a small unit of grenzers. Finding themselves in the open the Austrian infantry decided to flee. Another unit of Austrian hussars who had moved up in support were too far away from the melee to assist. They then came under long range, but accurate fire from French lights in a nearby wood who were protecting the French hussars' right flank. With the French cavalry in front and an early casualty from musketry, they retired leaving the hamlet to the French.

As casualties all count in the campaign this was a fairly decent French victory.

Friday Night: Walcourt 1689, Pike & Shotte rules 28mm

A win for the French after the allies only got one infantry brigade into the battle.

Sunday: Peninsula War  1810 ish, border clash, Black Powder rules 28mm

A resounding British win with two French brigades broken, not helped by very poor French dice.

Sunday: Peninsula War, French vs Spanish, Black Powder rules 28mm

A quick game to finish the day. A Spanish victory, one French brigade broken the other in trouble, those dice again!

Currently sojourning in the Grim North so I brought War of the Ring up with me to play a four-handed game with the nephews. Much Buck's Fizz was consumed during the afternoon and a great time was had by all!

The set-up.

I've been remiss of my own thread!

I was able to play several games of Mordheim (yay!) a few weeks ago.

A single game of Shadow War Armageddon (yaaaaaawn...)

And even pushed some plastic around and rolled some dice with some new folks I met for a current game of 40K (the game is awful, but the guys are cool) - none of my models/materials present sadly.  Very welcoming group though!

Is Shadow War generally an inferior game do you think? What made it yawn compared to Mordheim?

I loved Mordheim back in the day, and would love to play a game or two of it today. Even if I think the whole rule system is daft and broken, the setting was so great and the terrain so fun to make and play on it made for a great game.
I never played Necromunda, but understand it was/is just as popular. Is Shadow War nothing like Necromunda then?
