AKULA's BS 2017 Entry - Rogue One Scariff Shield Gate pg16 few more photos

Technically the Shield Gate in Rogue One, is actually a space station, but I wanted to doublecheck with Jim before I posted my entry, that it was ok, due to its "links to flight" - apart from hovering above the planet, it also has loads of fighter hangers, plus docking stations for larger space craft.

I'm going to have a go at building one in 1/2256 to fit with my existing Star Wars project.

The following image is from Mel Miniatures (on shapeways), and is a decent graphical representation of the layout, whereas mine will look more like a frisbee that has been mauled by a Rottweiler..... the image below is white because that's the material that Shapeways print in, but the actual station is more of a light grey in colour., like a star destroyer.

I'm guesstimating the station is about 1200 metres across, so the model will be roughly 21" in diameter give or take (not including the sticky out bits) in 1/2256 scale.

After seeing Rogue One yesterday Im totally into Star Wars again. So keep on, Im pretty excited to see how this will turn out!

From the game...more flak towers around the outer edge.  Not sure what is on the outlying pylon, but may well be yet more flak towers, as it would give more coverage...? 



Another shot from Battlefront... Can see some of the six hangars, plus what look like larger anti-ship weapons on the gallery above them.  Not sure what the domes are on the central gate cradle....something to do with the gate itself, or possibly another type of flak tower...??

Nonsense: They're just greeblies the guys found lying around and thought they would look cool...

  indeed, they may well be exactly that....if so, it's a bloody daft design - after all, why bother trying to attack the gate, when you could just take out the pylons (that generate the planetary wide shield) which are outside of the shield, and away from the actual defences on the gate itself....?  But then that is exactly what the Empire seems to do with its star destroyer deflector shields....they can't all be designed by disgruntled engineers surely?

Again, this is a real possibility  

For now, I'll think of them as greeblie shield pylons.
