Yeah, I agree, really. I was gonna do 15/18mm originally, as a couple of years ago there was talk of a new John Ford range coming out from the guy who runs the Legends in Time site in the US - he sent me some preview pics which were amazing. However, there have been endless delays and in the end I decided to go the other way and do 54mm just cos I love the old Airfix models. On a 12 foot long table it'll work well enough using modified The Men Who Would Be Kings rules, as they are suitably 'skirmishy' and the sheer scale of 54mm will make it stand out in a show environment which is partly what the project is designed for. And the idea of doing 'old movie' style games with 'old toy soldiers' seemed kinda fitting too! :D Having said that, if those 18mm figs ever see the light of day I'd still be tempted!!

The Newline range isn't bad at all. A bit limited in poses for the Indians and their horses are a bit dodgy, but in large numbers they'd probably look cool. Blue Moon do a great range of 'historically accurate' 15/18mm... Their Sioux Indians are particularly fabulous...

Oh dear. What a pity. Those unfinished and never to be produced line are a curse for the community of smaller scales it seems.

After going through the Blue Moon catalogue, I must say that Im very much impressed with what they did in18mm and now am not so sure if I should go with Newline, which has the better Character pack, or Blue Moon.

DivisMal, Peter Pig have all kind of character packs in their Old West range. You might check there!

Oh thanks! Didn't know these either. In direct comparison I like the Blue Moon minis better, but Peter Pig has all the terrain I ever wanted (or didn't know I wanted until now). Yikes, even a small train!

That is a most impressive range for 15mm.

Ooh...very nice Mr Faversham!!

Here's an update...some WIP conversions of the mounted 'bugler/standard bearer' model from the Airfix set. I have replaced the guidon pole with a steel spear and will do the guidon in paper. This chap has the left arm from the foot bugler's original model. The chap with the carbine has had the right arm chopped off and fixed at a new angle at the elbow (needs a bit of green stuff to tidy the join) and has had the left (carbine) arm added from the prone model.

I hope to get these ready for painting tomorrow...

Patience, fellas - Am just waiting for some spare parts I've ordered to customise them further - some blanket rolls and some spare saddles for those of the models whose horses came without them from EBAY and then I'll get cracking on them.  :D

The Dook is a limited edition white metal figure done by King and Country. They do Sergeant Quincannon too...

I think they are 60mm. Couldn't find them on the site earlier but most stuff on there is that kind of scale...

You'll have to post a picture of how he looks with your plastic figures. :)
