  • As my grandchildren see me...
I remember how excited I was first seeing the ships; it's been long enough, I can be all excited again. The joys of age-effected memory...  lol

"In 1814, Norwegians resisted the cession of their country to Sweden and adopted a new constitution. Sweden then invaded Norway but agreed to let Norway keep its constitution in return for accepting the union under a Swedish king. Rising nationalism throughout the 19th century led to a 1905 referendum granting Norway independence."

I thought your story could be shoe-horned into the history; Norway was an identity long before separation, and freebooters starting a Free Norway made sense to me. Well, as much as anything else in VSF.  :D

Your 'king' looks crazy enough. ;->=

Yeah yeah, one country, blah blah blah.

I actually looked at that as part of the reason why I created 'Free Norway'. The Norwegians were essentially a vassal country, with a separate governmental structure that was legally beholden to the King of Sweden.  The reality I have seen is that most Swedes will tell you they were united, but my grandfather, who was born just before his family emigrated to the US, and all of his friends, some of whom were old enough to remember the time before independence, always told me that Norway was its own country, and no Swede was ever going to tell them different, no matter how many wars they thought they won.  I took that attitude, and projected it into VSF, and thus, Free Norway on Mars.  I am mildly insulted that you would think I wouldn't have researched it.

Besides, could you imagine trying to paint that garish beast of a flag by hand?

If you found my reply insulting, please forgive my fumbling fingers. I wasn't clear on the particulars of the history myself, but thought the story made sense, and posted the snippet of wiki to help explain.

I have to apologize to Hammers, as well, as I was actually replying to him.

Sorry to both!

Nah, it wasn't you, it was Hammers - and yeah, I grew up hearing bad 'dumb swede' jokes and listening to discussions of reasons they left - because the people I was listening to had all left before independence.  I was taught early to listen to my elders, and since they were all between 75 and 100 when I was under 10, they left an impression. I never realize how much I listened to them until someone touches on a topic related to them, like the 'united' countries.  Next thing I know, I'm ranting - but I am not even sure why.  Anyway, enough of that history stuff - look at the pretty models! You know you must! :D

Well, I never said united, I said union, which is simply a fact. I have looked, admired and praised already. :)

And on a more positive note for our happy viewers, here are some new terrain pieces I have made.  I was watching another thread that used cushion foam, and so I gave it a try, without the coating sealer - I just soaked it in a 50/50 mix of white glue and water, with some ink to color it.

And then there is this - an old piece I made for a 'warpgate'.

And last but not least, my steam powered cavalry, the result of a collaboration between Doktor Hansteen, and my newest Spark Dvergr, Doktor Helga Fabius, Master of Agriculture and Eugenics.

I figure that adding a doktor of 'agriculture' allows me to 'breed' new and bizarre creations as well as allowing steam technology. Besides, Norwegian War Mammoths are an intriguing thought, as I have the Forge World beast on my shelf.
