thanks captain, its also very big, will need a large table for this one, the next two pieces will be
a tower with small stables possibly attatched and the other the great hall with taller tower
where the duke resides or maybe a wizard

Wow! That is really something quite special!  :-*

Have you given any thought as to what sort of colours you are going use to paint the model when completed? I'm thinking mainly of the stonework.

i think the stonework will be a beige/ light brown with a dirty brown wash for the joints, this will be possibly
on all the buildings and then the cobbles will be grey to contrast, i will hopefully paint one of the buildings soon
the plaster roof tiles a terracotta/ clay colour and possibly the cardbard tiles as slate, will have to experiment first

A good choice I think. Anything but grey! Maybe have a few of the stones different colours- possible by using washes?

i painted up some samples the first one is a mix of acrylic poster paints painted all over
and then wiped off with a kitchen roll, the second is a drybrushed version of the first with
a pin wash of burnt umber, might try to paint some individual stones to jazz it up a bit

Looking good so far - will you be applying a matte varnish to make it appear less shiny (or is that just the way the camera has picked it up)?

might be just the camera, weathering effects should take care of that

Skip, it looks good thus far. Are you going to vary the tones of the various stones in the walls by adding washed like green greys etc? I think it would make all the difference at the end of the day.

I've seen some brilliant paint jobs on stone walls which I saved so I'll have a dig through the files on my laptop and see what I can find by way of example. If you think it might be useful that is?
