And here we go, last day of my easter holiday and going back to work tomorrow. Did manage to finish painting the cavalry and another Hasslefree character.

Took some shots of the cavalry in action as well as with Aethelflaed in the unit. I'm already halfway to breaking the spears, will have to replace them with something a little sturdier very soon.

Here we are, two more models finished. I stole the idea for these conversions from someone, but I can't remember where. Frostgrave armoured wraiths with Barbarian heads. For Oathmark they will be Champions, the fighty unit leaders. These old men are just out to murder some people, they do not care to give orders.

Remember those metal horses that I tried out for the cavalry unit? They came from a set of three russian bogatyrs from a strange russian ebay seller. I got them a while back, but never really settled on a project where they would fit.

Last night I grabbed the riders for a second look and thought they might be ok in this army, with it's vague dark age northern aesthetic. Two of the models had helmets that were a little bit too eastern in flavour though, so I did a quick job with a jeweler's saw and grabbed two of the spare helmets from Victrix's saxons. Really nice to be able to get a clean nose guard with a helmet swap.

I have some Bad Squiddo mounted shieldmaidens coming, and we'll see how these fit together. Maybe put some cloaks on them, maybe swap the shields.

What do you think?

A very tidy job on those helmets.

I look forward to seeing what you make of the Bad Squiddo shieldmaidens - cloaks and shield swops sound like a good way to knit different sculptors figures together into a more cohesive unit...that and the palette you’ve chosen

Very impressive work here.  I particularly like the cavalry and the old bloke on the left - looks like James Cosmo, aka cousin Angus.  Great painting, kitbashing and general execution.

As I said on FB, this is hugely inspired. Made me look at the whole Frostgrave metal range in a completely different light. These guys even look like army generals, to be honest, they're far too badass to just be unit leaders - there's a real Geralt and Vesemir vibe to them.

Thank you! Oathmark has Champions, who are unit leaders that are extra good at murdering things. That's what I have a mind to run these as.

The projects in this thread have to a large extent been about kitbashing with things I already own. Like all of you I also have a huge lead mountain and a lot of it is vaguely northern in theme, bought with the vague excuse that I can use it in Frostgrave. This project has been great for getting paint on a couple of untouched models, and todays update is one of those. Bad Squiddo's Norse Witch on Moose. Lovely miniature, I had been eyeing it for Saga but not gotten around to painting it before.
