Having discussed the issue, our current stance would be that a dedicated board is out of the question for now. Present and future hobby demographics notwithstanding, it would be our sincere hope that such incidents are few and far between enough (at least for the time being) not to require a dedicated space which, strictly-speaking, would be out of scope for the forum (i.e. personal topics).
Nonetheless, we of course appreciate that you're making the suggestion in the best intent, and that there is some benefit to it for the community as described above. Still, it is an extremely sensitive issue, and one we do not consider to be best discussed in a public venue - bereavement and grief are personal issues, first and foremost, and any condolence issued here will necessarily lack (at least some of) the gravity and sincerety appropriate to the matter at hand.
That said, given a tangible link to our common hobby in general and the LAF community in particular, obituary topics would generally be appropriate to be posted on the General Discussion board, provided the OP and repliers behave themselves in a manner befitting the subject and not being disrespectful to the deceased and their next of kin.
