00 gauge (1/76 scale) for use with 28mm wargaming miniatures
« on: September 12, 2009, 06:31:45 PM »
First I have to say that 00 scale is actually perfect for 20mm wargaming, though itīs use is limited for 28mm, while H0 scale is of no actual consideration.

Well, New England has no exclusive pact Chtulhu and his spawn. I think the great old ones have older links with European shore communities as well. Possibly the Scottish coast might host some fisheries that are run by deep one related Dagon worshippers too.
Wild west trains would not be proper to deliver salt an ship the haddock and cod to the fishīnīchip shops in the United Kingdom. I was looking for some substitute, but could not find a really satisfying solution. I accepted the use of 00 scale goods wagons for narrow gauge, but not for standard gauge railways. Wales has still some of them in use for museum purposes. I will not use carriages and coaches, because they look way too small for 28mm figures. Thus I will have to scale up the typical brake vans too and will build the engines from scratch.

I think the overall impression of these short wagons is good enough for gaming. The wagons are tall enough to provide good cover and do not consume much length of track, even when thr train consists of some more of them.

The mentioned brake van needs to get a raise of its roof and probably some widening to put figures on the verandah:

looks interesting
reminds me of these  front supply railways in WWI and II
should work well as a factory train or similar

You make a difference between 00 and H0
I thought this was the same

H0 is 1/87

00 is 1/76

Both run on the same 16,5mm gauge tracks.

Proper scale for 28mm would be S gauge of 1/64 scale, though itīs rather limited in the US and almost non-existant in continental Europe.
