Denizens Pocket Wargame Plog by Lost Egg

Howdi all,

Today the postie dropped off a new purchase, Denizens Pocket Wargame...

https://www.spacedenizens.com/product-page/test-product

Here's a look inside the tidy wee tin...

Everything out...

And finally a close up of the minis...

On the back of the little fold out booklet is the rules, as you'd expect they are pretty short and sweet; I've not played a game yet but they look fun. This was such a cute little self contained set and I love the attention to detail where every minis has a compartment in the tin.

Mike at Space Denizens offers a couple of other sets too, a Expansion Mecha (new terrain, 2 commanders, 2 heavy weapon troopers and 2 mechs) as well as a Extra Troops (basically double the troops and tanks in this set above). I expect I'll be getting one of them at some point. He's also put some free larger ruined buildings on Thingverse...might have to try and get them printed too which'll be a first as I've never had anything printed for me before.

I'll hopefully tidy up mould lines etc tonight so they can be undercoated tomorrow. I've not painted 8mm before so this should be interesting  o_o

I have an exclusive contract, signed in my own blood with the all powerful one true, god's own scale, 28mm.

But even so, that's a cool concept.

(Yes I know, 28mm is not a scale.)

(Yes I know, most modern 28s are closer to 35mm. What you gonna do)

Tempted to try something similar with a

WW2 or Vietnam setting perhaps

Vietnam would work with a “tunnel rat” hunt theme, in that format, I think. Cool idea, the tin game!

I have a money off coupon from Salute on this set, after I brought quite a few packs of the upsized 28mm Denizen classic figs and a lovely pack of metal undead spacesuits etc

Will make the order just after my holiday.

Trying not to get into another scale, but I like the idea of these little tins  :D ;) and a real travel game  ;)

Good luck with yours, watching with interest

Not to derail this thread, but how do the upscale 28mm figures look in comparison to something like Copplestone's scifi ranges? I have the 25mm mid tech scifi figures, and they're lovely sculpts, just a bit tiny. I've been tempted by the 28mm versions for a while.

Yes trying not to derail this fine thread, the new owner of Space Denizen, has resculpted the existing fantastic 25mm models at a much more fitting 28-30mm size and I must say they look exactly as I remember the old 25mm fantastic sculpts to look. They are on my painting desk at the moment, I will put some comparison pictures on LAF at a later date.

I'd love to see some pics of the upscaled minis too, feel free to share them here Storm Wolf. If you have any Stargrave minis I'd love to see a comparison shot.

I got everything cleaned up and did a bit of GS work on the 2 piece ruins after gluing them. I also got everything undercoated and made a start on painting the Ventaurans. This is the scheme I'm going with...

This is from the Space Denizens FB group.

That looks very cool!

Great to hear that the upscaled figures haven't lost any of their quality.

Great minds and all that, mine are already have a bone coloured base and will have brown armour also, not sure about the visors though, black or copper?

Thanks for the offer, I will add some pics alongside some Stargrave and GW mins for comparisons, but it will be a little while yet.

I decided to go with black visors for the Ventaurans as I'm going to pretty much follow the above image. I have done a bit more of them but mostly this past week or two I've been working on rocky hills for my Classic Wargame, though I did make a small one for Pocket Wargame as well as made a start on a board too...

It took me a while to refine the slopes of the hill so the little chaps can stand on it without sliding. The board is 30x30cm and you can see, kind of, the start I have made on my Ventaurans too. I've also ordered some printed larger ruined buildings that Mike at Space Denizens put up on Thingverse for free, I will share pics when they arrive.

A bit more work done on the board with some beach edging...

It still needs sanding and then masking before I modge podge. Oh I added some texture using the classic ball of alu foil.

I also finished my Ventaurans...

It's been interesting painting such tiny minis...has been years since I painted anything this small. Next up will be some barrels.

The fella behind the Pocket Wargame and Space Denizens has uploaded some larger ruined buildings to Thingverse and the prints arrived today from Paragon Star...

This is the full set of 7 on my 30x30cm board and I think they look cool. There was also a surprise in the box...

Turns out that on the first print the floors didn't quite come out well so they printed them again and put the misprints in the box so I actually ended up with 2 full sets!

In the mean time I decided to start on the barrels...which shouldn't take too long.

I mentioned it on another platform but I really like the way the whole thing comes in nicely segmented storage and that there are different packs that are equally well presented.

Back before I moved to 28mm, I used to keep my 15mm Laserburn miniatures in tobacco tins lined with tissue and seeing this storage method really gave me a pang of nostalgia :) .

Brilliant work from Denizens :) .
