Sad for you of course, but am glad to know that John is kept busy :D Think Richard (Otherworld) is expecting rather a lot from him (like 3 huge/giant spiders and about 10 wolf riders - and probably even more). Been long since he last had an OW release, IMO.

Two more figures for the pikedwarf unit, this time original Marauder minis.

The first one is the one from the legendary MM15 set, which explains why he got a bit more attention from the sculptor. It's a single part model and looks great. I'm pretty happy with how he came out, as I think the colours work for him.

The second one is one of the marauder dwarfs with plug-in weapons (pikes, crossbows and handguns were made for them), and since I already painted copies of this body for my handgunners and crossbows, it's a bit less interesting, though I did manage to come up with another colour scheme for him that's different enough from my previous copies, while still respecting the general scheme.

A quick picture with similarly armed "WK" dwarfs:

I love those models (both the originals and the new WK sculpts), and you do them justice.

Lovely paintings, again.

The MM15 might have had a bit more love but the second one is one of my all time favorites:

Really like how he holds the spear. Looks like a solid grip, if the enemy is coming at you, fast ;) Like yours too, but I'm glad, that I'm not to hold the spear. Guess, you'll have a rather sore wrist by the end of the day :)

I can't do any fancy blending (too slow) so it's old school layering for me. No drybrushing ever, not even on hair.

I prime white, then paint thinned black into all the places I want to have some blacklining and on the metals. I don't leave black lines between cloth of different colour, but some thin ones between different textures: cloth, leather, skin, hair, weapons.

For most colours, I don't use more than three or four shades max. I usually start with the darkest shade, as it will stay in the folds and crevices and covers the spots of black paint where I've been messy (almost everywhere). So for red, I start with a colour called portwein, blue starts with dark blue, yellow starts with vomit brown, etc... Then I paint over that with the base coat, leaving some of the darker colour for shading. Then one or two highlights on that, depending on the colour. Any more and I would never finish anything.
For a few colours, like the skin or the pony bodies, I invert the first two steps: first the base skintone and then wash with thinned paint for the shading, after that highlight as normal.

And for dotting the eyes I use a black micropen, best investment I made, it's sooo easy. :)

Something that was long overdue, the command figures for the Marauder Miniatures MB1 Dwarfs with pikes. It's only when I started editing the pictures I realised I forgot to finish their noses with my trademark "red nose". This omission was quickly rectified but by then the good light was gone, so you'll have to do with these pictures for now.

The champion. It's a great figure, but I don't think I did justice to it. I feel I could have picked the colours better.

The standard bearer. A great figure that I decided to put some extra care in, with the striped trousers. The banner is made from my usual material of stiff, posable foil (the kind you find in little dishes for chinese food, premade lasagna's, etc... Since I don't eat that stuff, I simply bought some empty ones which can also be had in a lot of places).

I'm rather happy with the little flag, even though the best part of it is hidden. It's a simplistic design, far from the little masterpieces others craft for their standarbearers. I remembered to take a picture before gluing it on, but after adding the curves. The shield looks asymmetrical in the picture because of the curve, but it's not.

The musician, this is the least interesting figure of the three, but quite possibly the single example of a dwarf playing a flute. And it's still a good figure in it's own right too.

And finally, a couple long overdue group shots of the unit so far (25 dwarfs, more to add). They are a mixture of WK dwarfs, Marauder originals and a few marauder conversions.

Lovely pikemen and a lovely command group. I painted that standard bearer up for my clansmen years ago, I had to pin the hand in place as the connection is rather flimsy  :)
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

I should have done that too. I'm sure I'll curse and do it the first time the bond breaks.
