trés, trés cool monsieur
beats the reality

just curious: is there an explanation for the "circus" corrugated iron roof on that shed?

You mean the fancy colours? I did Google image search for "slum". I probably overdid it a bit, but quite a lot of colourful elements can be found in slum huts.

Btw can anyone recommend a matte medium, preferably sprayable? Since I glued down sand and stuff with the deodorant-bottle-filled-with-diluted-PVA, every surface is covered with a thin film of PVA and shines like bacon rind in the wrong light. Not too desirable. I was thinking about hairspray, has anyone tried this? Or is there a more obvious thing?

I use this to seal my terrain items - mountains, grass, buildings, sand etc:

Requires only a light coating.
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2024 = 32
(2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

Thanks! Is this a standard clear varnish from the DIY store? It says "Seidenmatt" on the bottle, which in my experience is semiglossy. Is that an issue if too much is applied?

Another picture of the ditch:

The grass tufts need to be toned down a little, and the "water" needs to be added, but that's about it, I think.

I use a similar "seidenmatt", €3,50 from Tedox, it is matt

That looks great Jens, I'll be looking forwards to seeing it at some point hopefully.

If applied heavily it can give an unwanted almost glass-like coat but it is a matt glass; presumably this is due to the thickness of the layer applied.  However, in my experience a light coat will seal and is matt without the 'glass' layer.  I have used it on my mountains, terrain boards, buildings, etc that can be seen in the following links:

http://silent-invasion.blogspot.com/2009/10/woodlander-mountain-diorama.html

http://silent-invasion.blogspot.com/2010/02/woodlander-harbour-river-system.html

Fortunately it's relatively inexpensive - about £5 I think in the UK from DIY sheds, hardware stores and some craft shops - but do 'test' before use in case it doesn't work for you. I once over-sprayed (it was a new can and I pressed too hard and applied too close - and got the glassy look).

I think you'd get shot for that!

But it is funny how so many people say they hate modern art, but fail to actually look at it in any depth other than Hirst or Emin.
But I appreciate their works conceptually as well. Even if I dislike them from what I gather.

Would be worth it :) I mean, just look at it! All you need is to add a fort with an oil well, and you've got your Mad Max game!

Duncan, Horisont at the latest, I guess?

former user, where do you get spray paint for under 7 Euros? Most of the bottles in this area go for 8+, sometimes even 11 Euros.

Kiel in May then? The rules have evolved quite a bit since last Horisont, so I'm looking forward to a game and your judgement :)

Last picture for now, with a few of the trees from the other thread added:

I don't have enough room to take pictures of the full setup, buildings and all, so that will have to wait until the next convention :) Otherwise, I'm done, only the trickle has to dry. I used that Noch stuff for the water, and remembered what I didn't like about it the first time: it is rather thick, and forms visibly convex blobs. It settled down a bit after spraying it with water, and I suspect that it will shrink considerably, so maybe it'll turn out ok.

Btw, I have rereleased those tin shacks seen in some of the pictures. Please take a look here, if you're interested.

Pictures for the shop already taken on the new boards :)
