post apocalyptic wargaming table

im going to make a post apocalyptic wargaming table that should work with most scenarios like metro 2033, stalker or madmax/rage and fallout.
it must be able to swith from a forest to a post apocalyptic moscow quickly.

the board is 81x122cm or something

I've seen some great-looking future roads made from ripped-up cork tile: it totally looks like shattered post-apocalyptic blacktop.

If you're using insulation foam as the base board, you can just use a block of sandpaper to sand in pathways wherever you like. Not good for proper asphalt roads, but excellent for dirt roads, animal paths, etc.

I build 1:72 scale armour as my main hobby and my preferred asphalt road material is fine grade wet and dry.

Such as;



It can be weathered and does look quite convincing.
