Very, very classy entries in Round One!

Strangest thing - at least for me - is that this "old lead" thing is forcing me to vote for GW figures. I'll be honest, given a choice between GW and non-GW (assuming basically equal painting and presentation) I'll let "not GW" be the deciding factor... can't do that this round in a lot of matchups, and the old GW stuff is so much more interesting than most of today's ubiquitous GW figures!

Interesting comment, and I have to concur. I anticipated that the old lead theme would bring out more GW than usual- I suspect a fair few of us started gaming with Citadel figures. I have hundreds of figures in the lead pile, but the only ones I have from 1990 or before are Citadel :P

I may have never gotten them painted up if not for the theme, so again I thank the LPL!

Wow, the overall level that is being achieved is really very high. I just keep coming back to the entries to watch them because most of them are so beautifull  :-*

Well done everyone! Curious what we'll see in the next round  ;D
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?

I think that's right, and I said pretty much the same thing to the Prof and Ray last night.

There's also been a huge influx of new LAF members over the past year or two, and to judge from the huge increase in traffic on the respective boards, very many of these people have sci-fi and fantasy as their first love.
We always used to say that GW entries would generally struggle in the LPL against more 'historical / fictional' entries from other genres, because things like pulp, colonial, old west, back of beyond, VSF and WW2 used to be the real heartland of LAF. Well honestly I don't think it is any more, and I don't think we will see that GW-handicap playing out any more in this LPL.

And no, honestly, I'm not just making excuses for why I'm getting beaten in the current round  ::)

Judging from the entries I think every one likes orcs not just GW figures. :)

Guilty as charged.  I'm definitely a fan of orcs of many varieties, and this first round theme opens up for some of my favorite orcs: 80's citadel Kevin Adams' orcs are just so fun.

Just been painting some GW Plastics for round 5 entry and really hated every minute of it as I really found it difficult to get paint to stick to the figures, not sure why, never had a problem with plastics before, it just seemed like I was brushing it off all the time :-[

Given them a good wash now and hope that will allow a better surface  for the next layers

You pick one of the option in the top bar, press "submit" and that's it.

The standard of painting and composition (Bashi Bazouks!) is exceptional and it's only Round 2. I was genuinely excited about Round 2 coming up this morning after the high standard of Round 1. I really wanted to enter but reminded myself that I can barely paint 5 figures a month, never mind a week! The funny thing is, even though my painting would be exposed for the shoddy, wash-reliant style it is by the quality of the other entrants, I'm still sort of inspired to make a real effort to enter next year by the same quality of those other entries!

Greetings

I'm a happy fellow again. My minis for Round five have finally arrived and as of now I'm solely painting them .. and nothing else. I was a bit nervous because I never bought from that company and didn't know neither casting quality and time for the parcel to arrive.

A bit on the humorous side: I received a notification (Saturday) that a registered letter had arrived and I should take it in custody the next working day. The whole weekend my wife and I thought hard about who (and why) would send us a registered letter. Monday comes and off I am to the postal desk where I get handed .... a parcel. About 22x19x12 cm. When asking the post employee why my notification showed a letter and not a parcel he said "Well, you know the package, being from an abroad foreign country, did not fit the German DIN measurements."

I guess I must have made a very funny face. This is the first time I received a parcel not named a parcel because it *might* not fit the DIN norm. :D

That said, I am extremely happy with the content of the box and will make sure to get a lot of pictures taken.
Have a nice day all
Jo

This is tuning in a stressy annus horriblis...

After all the *graaaagh* to get in with the hosipitalisation, Redoubt is still unable to get my order all sorted out for round 10... and that is 28 models and 2 large things to paint, which I *hoped* would`ve been halfway done by now  :-X

I think I might better be starting to look for an alternative for the bonus points...

Being a new member of the LA-Forum I take this place to thank ALL participants and "the staff" for their entries and efforts in this League!
The quality is extraordinary in most entries.
It's most interesting for me to go though all entries - and vote - so continue with your effort!
