They are closer to bears than badgers... but they are part of each and all of neither :D

Here's a badger on a new, shiny base (I didn't like the ones that came with the kit):

The bases are from GW but there's more info (including some Exo/Sentinel conversions) over at Inso's World:

It's the usual level of clean up for Mantic's weird plastic resin... each badger took about 20 minutes to clean the mould lines away and glue together... I did one at a time with a gap in between for 'sanity' purposes :).

You have to cut the mould lines off rather than scrape them (as they tend to go 'fluffy') so you need a small but sharp blade and some extra patience.

It is the price you pay for the kits being so inexpensive, I guess (£2.00 per cavalry model isn't a bad price at all).

There is a bit of filling required as well... so you'll need some green stuff and a tool to smooth things together.

I think they are worth the effort :) . They look like badger/bear crossovers and will make a great cavalry mount for each of my rough rider Squats :)

Be warned though... the riders for these are BIG compared to a standard GW Squat model so they are no use to me (but may be of use if you plan to play KoW :D !).

Thanks for the review, Inso.

I think they will work just fine for my intentions, so I guess I will have to get my hands on a few now.

Cheers!
 :D

In a further, some might say heretical move, I have decided to add a unit of wyrdvane psykers to my Squat army so what better way to do it than to recycle something from yesteryear?

As a result, I had a sudden burst of inspiration and decided that Hrud would be cool additions to the army and I had something in mind so I went into my cupboard and pulled these out:

My frog-people! Now I know that the general thoughts on Hrud are that they were place-holders for space-rats but the picture in the Rogue Trader rule book didn't show a face, just a cloaked figure with a rat's tail... so that is what I have made :). I may add some pouches to them at some point but they are finished apart from that.

I hope you like them :)

Heck, they look like some of the mutant rat-oid stuff I've seen. Whoops, may have given someone an idea...

I'm not sure about Ratoids... but here is the start of a badger rider:

As is usual, there is more information on my blog and this week, it has a guide to making my frog faces, the rough rider WIP and some finished Sentinels:

I think I will call this one Chuck :) . Not much further to go... just arms, lance-head and base:

Cheers :)

He's more or less finished now, apart from the base and lance head (I may leave it until all of the lances are put together so that they are all the same :) ).

I'll get photographs soon... but in the mean time, I have been thinking about Ogryn / Bullgryn and have got hold of some Mantic Orx that look like they may fit the bill... here's a digital representation of what I have planned:

I have five of them (three of the one pictured and two others that are different) and am still in the planning stages (especially the weapons) but I think they have promise... and for a fraction of the price of the GW equivalents :)

The lance-point will be sorted in a batch when the other riders are finished and the base will get sorted with bits of waste putty when I am sculpting other things... so Chuck is finished apart from that :)

So, another day and more Squat goodness arrives in the thread, this time... not for me... a commission.

Here's a teaser:

... and there is a whole squad of them here:

http://insosworld.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/a-single-minded-post.html

It is nice to actually finish a commission (rather than being rubbish).

That is a lovely conversion (as is the rest of the squad).
That mohawk is great and the use of the Mantic dog is so fitting.
 :-* :-*

I want one of those dogs now.....

I'm sorry but I don't have a spare mastiff, otherwise I'd send you one :(

While I was converting some gunners for my heavy weapon tractors (2nd platoon - and they are all done, waiting to dry :) ), I decided that I couldn't wait any longer so I started putting together a Bullgryn that is made from a Mantic Dreadball Orx model... here is the first test (WIP) with a Hasslefree human and an older version of a GW Ogryn:
