Gypsy warband thoughts
« on: 06 August 2015, 08:56:32 AM »
I'm planning on building a frostgrave gypsy warband (mainly I want some gypsies to go with the wagon I created but thought fitting them into frostgrave would be a great idea.)
I'll probably go with westwind vampire wars gypsies and some of the wolves they have for hounds. I'll probably get some of the werewolves to use as barbarians in the band too. I saw it state in the book that the werewolves in the bestiary are not true lycanthrope do I can say these guys are true lycanthropes instead.
Soothsayer is probably the best fit for them being renowned as fortune tellers.
Anyone know of some other places that sell good gypsy figures and a wide range? Shipping is usually a killer out this way, although westwind is only going to charge £4! Reaper have some hood thug types and a dancer or two.

You might try Freebooter perhaps? I think with some modfications, some of their pirates my not be a bad fit.

Failing that, what about some of the old LOTR models? GW put out a  lot of plastic kits, and I'm sure some would work reasonably well (and can be had cheaply enough second-hand or on ebay).

Sounds like an interesting idea for a band.  Besides the Westwind figures you already know about, my best guess is to look at pirate ranges for figures that could be Gypsies in context (bandanas on their heads, ear rings, etc.).

Blue Moon Manufacturing makes a a Romanian Civilian set for their "Things that go Bump in the Night" range, which has a few figures that might work, if you can think of something to do with all of the others.

Wow. Thanks all. Great list to choose from. I quite like the hell dorado one and the dancer from reaper. I think a dancing gypsy would fit the apprentice look really well. I'm probably after some sort of old hag for the main soothsayer (fortune teller)

The West Wind soothsayer is most excellent for the Wizard! And West Wind gypsies are all excellent IMO :)

As well as a Soothsayer, you might also consider the Witch too - I think that might also fit, and provide you with some gaming alternative. :)

Maybe a wandering Illusionist is worth a try, too. I have some sort of circus wagon in mind as an add on for my illusionist, or a scenario of sorts.

I also like the dancing girls minis, but the profile is a bit tricky to me. Thief? Thug?
best wishes

I managed (quite some time ago) to get some westwind gypsies. They really suit the part. Still not painted yet though, lol.

For the dancers go with "Thief" profile...skilled at the art of being pickpockets...Thugs could be 2 or 3 burley sort of fellows ready to give you a good lumping when the dancers lure into a dark alley...A "Soothsayer" and her crystal ball and a crossbowman...

Damn, now I got to do a Gypsy warband...
