A Question about Races
« on: October 18, 2015, 09:19:53 PM »
So, it seems a lot of us are using non-human races in our warbands. As the expansions come along, how much impact will our dwarves, elves, minotaurs, etc have in diverging from future fluff?

I, for one, would like to stay close to Frostgrave "proper". But I would also like to have elven, orcish, or dvergr mercenaries in the warbands.

I hope that there are no difference between races. It makes the game more open and limits the cheese factor.

We have a campaign starting tomorrow night, and among the 9 players that I know of we have at least one goblin and one lizardman warband. We're not making any allowances for species when it comes to the stats.

For the record, one of my warbands are Ratmen and I hope there will never be written a single rule about non-human races! This just works fine!

I think it's fine that a thug is a thug no matter what race they are, making for more interesting and unique warbands.
Nothing wrong with mixing them up either, say a halfling thug or thief, elvish  ranger or archer or a dwarf infantryman or Templar amongst a human warband - or maybe even steer away from the norm with a halfling Templar or dwarf archer just to keep things interesting.

Id like to see that! I had a Skaven warband for Mordheim in the days of yore....

Part of Frostgraves appeal is that there are no races. A Thug can be a peasant warrior, viking, dwarf or half-orc. An archer can be human or an elf, or Skaven jezzail gunner.

I agree with the majority of the posters here. I haven't played Frostgrave yet, I went in level 5 on the new Nickstarter, but there is something refreshing about not having to worry about racial differences.

Until my level 5 arrives, I'm using D&D minis for my games. We have one human, one dwarf and one goblin warband so far.

I'm using Reaper Bones Halflings for Thieves. The other players all approved.

To be honest, it's nice not halving to keep track of different racial stat lines. The Wizards are the main attraction, everyone is just the hired help.

If you want to have orcs and minotaurs with higher strength and toughness, make them classes that perform better in combat. If you want elves and Skaven moving faster than other races, use those miniatures for the quicker classes. Seems pretty simple.

This.

My own warband is 50/50 human/non-human, I face a goblin warband, a high elf warband, a warband made up of Northstar Oriental figures...

One of the pluses of this game for me is that there is no race involved.

I'm glad this topic was mentioned and I agree with the other posters regarding the level playing field for all fantasy races.

Indeed. It just felt amazing to finally move my Hobbits a distance of six mighty inches. And then another three for their second activation! Normally can't even cover that distance in two turns...

Or just tired. The poor pudgy little fellows aren't meant to go that fast!  lol Like the rest I don't see the need for official races in Frostgrave. On the other hand I have thought of tinkering with some race specific special rules. Mainly because I have a ton of dwarf minis and they are too heavily armoured to fit the Frostgrave soldier types as well as I'd like. Definitely way, way down on my list of gaming priorities right now.
