Thanks for the compliments! I'm liking how the statue is turning out. I agree that the smaller pieces really bring a board to life - its just that they tend to not be the priority. I'll check out some of the diecast cars instead or some of those Disney Cars. Gunbirds thread convinced me that maybe I should pick up some of those.

Have a look at KiNSMART diecasts, look in my Fallout thread for examples of them (quite liberally) covered in rust. I used them from all over the scale map (1/55-1/32 even).  Also I grabbed a few O scale trucks on ebay that have this cab:
that it looks like the F3/NV trucks were somewhat patterned after.  They're not the cheapest, but I figured for only getting 1 or 2 of them it was worth it for the look. Just search 'ERTL 1950 o scale truck'.

I finished another Vault-Tec monument today. I'm liking this one quite a lot.

Here are also a few more of my Red Rocket gas station as foreground for a bunch of the small terrain pieces I've been working on. I went and bought a huge lot of Disney Cars for super cheap. They turned out okay. I'm not 100% happy with the scale, but they are adequate for now - and for the price I got them at, I can't really complain.

I've been working on a bunch of trees. They are woodland scenics 5-7" tree armatures. I'm going to leave them dead and barren. I'm liking their progress...

Here's an end-of-year update on my post-apoc terrain collection. I am quite impressed that I got this much done in just a couple months!

That is a fine looking table, there.  Kudos to you!  As an aesthetic question, is there a reason you went so dark for the ground colors?

I originally built the board for 40k - I was going for a muddy desolate death-world. My 40k armies are painted in light colors, so they pop nicely on the board with the contrast. it is quite dark, and since I've started this post-apoc project, i've questioned my choice with the darker color scheme. I've been considering adding some yellow dried grass flock to the board and the individual terrain pieces to lighten the overall presence a bit. I think the colors do fit a bit, though, as the Sacramento area is a big wetland and so I imagine the place as one big muddy bog of a place as sea levels rise due to global warming.

I think the color works pretty well. I was trying to match the ground color of Fallout 3 with my bases, but I think I've given up and will just go with whatever medium brown is readily available at Michael's.  ::)

Reasonable reasoning.  I finally ended up on a raw sienna highlighted with a desert sand color for all of my terrain - I figured out later that the amount of orange I was seeing in the visuals was actually an error on the TV's part, but I really liked it, so left it.  It works well, and I can gray it out without it seeming dulled, which is a real trick sometimes.

If you decide to move away from it, I would highly suggest just using the dark as a base, and using gray and light brown mixed with it to highlight up.  It ties the old terrain in without making it seem out of place.  I am doing that with my VSF and Fallout stuff, so that I can use both on the terrain boards I have made.

All in all, great stuff!
