Battle of the Cornfields - M&T AAR (Pic Heavy)
« on: December 30, 2015, 12:08:57 PM »
Played a very enjoyable game of M&T yesterday with Nick, James and Gary (Malamute, Jimbibbly and Hu Rhu).  8 x 5 table with figures and terrain from Nick's and Gary's collections.

Scenario was a French raid on a British frontier settlement with the French objective of burning the buildings and killing the settlers.

Pumpkin patch and cornfields - the calm before the storm

Hawkeye and his Mohicans return from hunting dinner

The French militia move up through the woods to the north of the settlement

Meanwhile, on the other side of the settlement, Rodger's Rangers approach the settlement with their Mohawk guides from the south

The Militia are practicing their musket drill, unaware of the coming battle

Seeing movement in the trees to the west of the settlement, the rangers move into the rough ground beside the river

The British Mohawk allies, at the settlement to trade, spot the French Militia in the woods to the north and open fire

The French Huron's return the favour

The musket fire continues with casualties on both sides

The Huron are reinforced by more militia and the Mohawks are shot down

Meanwhile more Huron are approaching from the west, making use of the cornfields for cover

The French main force arrives along the road from the east

with their light infantry covering their flank

The French forces start to deploy into firing lines while they come under fire from the Rangers on their left and the militia and indians on their right

Meanwhile the light infantry press on into the settlement to reinforce the militia who have been busy setting fire to the buildings

At last the British Regulars arrive - no doubt responding to the large cloud of smoke above the settlement - Hurrah!

The Provincials deploy to deal with Huron scouts who have started sniping at the British Regulars

The French are making good progress and their volley fire is taking its toll on the settlement's defenders

The British Rangers exchange fire with some of the Huron's that have crossed the river; the dense cover used by both sides made the firing ineffective

The French light infantry and Militia, flush with the success of torching the buildings move forward unaware of the Mowhawks waiting in ambush at the end of the building

The French continue to advance

The Mohawks spring their ambush and with a flurry of flung tomahawks and spine chilling war cries they cut down the militia to a man, only to be killed by the French light infantry

The British make slow progress, having to stop and deal with the French militia on the wooded hill overlooking the bridge

The Provincials engage the Huron scouts but despite their greater numbers the scouts and their chief manage to just win the fight.  Fortunately the Regulars were on hand to slaughter the survivors with a withering volley from the road.

Cinematic panorama

The last heroic action of the militia was to engage the leading French company in hand to hand to buy the British regulars time to deploy - they died to a man without inflicting any casualties on the French

At this point I seem to have stopped taking photos - probably because I was too busy trying to kill off the Frenchies with my Regulars.

However the morale cards were now in the deck due to the large amount of casualties suffered by both sides and units were withdrawing from the fight. Most of the allied indians on both sides had left the field (or were dead) and we decided to call it a day.

A very enjoyable game - M&T rules are easy to learn and fun to play and give a good game - worth giving them a try if you haven't done so already.

Very impressive minis, terrain and photos I especially loved the French regulars and your pumpkin and corn fields. On a side note who made that road?

Unbiased?  Well nearly given that it was written by one English player endorsed by the other.  :D :D :D

Actually it was a great game played in the best of spirits.  I second Dr D's vote for M&T - very easy to pick up and they give a good feel for the era.

Great photo's Mark - must get myself one of those cameras.

What a fantastic looking table. The figures, terrain and AAR were superbly done. As others have stated, the pumpkin field looks great. Thanks for sharing your eye candy with the rest of the world.

Victory is guaranteed to the last man standing, but always remember those whom you stepped on to get there!!

There isn't one. It's just hardboard with filler which is textured and painted.
