Just to clarify the situation as regards planned GB plastic sets, according to a reply to a query I received from Andy, the company has no plans to release dedicated Germanic infantry; that niche is considered already filled by the existing sets.  There will be a generic light cavalry box, then sets of specific heavy cavalry types, such as Roman and Vandals/Goths.

That's disappointing. If they released seperate metal heads to supplement the Dark Ages and Roman boxes they could greatly expand it's usability.

Indeed bad news on the Goth/ Vandal infantry  :(
But hey, never say never! At least we will get two sets of cavalry  :-*

I haven't done too much for my Late Romans recently although I did build plenty..
Here my latest additions, one legionary and an auxiliary:

Cheers

I really like you gritty, realistic style. How do you achieve the 'dust' effect on the shields? It looks very nice indeed and I would like to emulate it. Dry pigments?

Truly stunning work! I'm really suffering having to choose between a few boxes of these, or Betrayal at Calth  o_o

If I had to guess, it appears our painter applied the same colour used for the base grit and drybrushed it onto the underside of the shield. Please correct me if I'm off the mark!

Sorry for the super late reply gents!!!

The dust effect is actually done with Mig Pigments Dry Mud. I've tried dry brushing with Baneblade Brown which has a good colour match but it looked too 'painted'..

No further Romans as yet as I am rather busy right now but I am looking forward to painting the Ballista already  8)

Cheers

If you're looking for alternate heads for these chaps, it may be worth your while to check out Westwind Productions' separate head options for their Arthurian range: http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=192_69_145

Lots of options available for Romans, Celts, and Saxons.

Very nicely done. The gritty look does add quite some atmosphere.

Are you painting on the beards, or do they come beardy?

The archers...are the quivers preattached on the sides? ( For conversion purposes, I'm looking for back quivered figures like these....).

Thanks for any answers.
