But let's face it...to do a good acting performance of the Major one needs hardly any expression. I love the anime, but the Major has an extremely boring face throughout the episodes. Not that much emotion and a bit flat (note: not her personality or story line! Just her face...)

The Major's anime personality is rather bland in the movie, in Stand Alone Complex series she has more of a joking side (such as making Bato knock himself out by hacking his arm), in the original manga (comic) shes a rather comical character.

The thing that bugs me about the way people are bitching about this movie, is that they are just focusing solely on the 90's anime movie, and not taking in to account we have had 4 different interpretations of Ghost in the Shell. Manga, Movie, Stand Alone Complex and the newest Arise. So for me, this movie sits in quite nicely as just another interpretation.

Also the Majors background is constantly being altered as well :/

If they were going to do something interesting with it, that would be fine. But it looks to be half soulless imitation and half Hollywood formula. I could be wrong about that sure, but I got a 99/100 record on spotting pointless boring movies.

I mean, I'm the target audience for this and as far as I'm concerned they're doing everything wrong.

Also, "This is Major". Did they think that was her name or something?

That. If they can't stick with an iconic character's actual name, I'm gonna be bummed.

Er....
At work, police(wo)men identify ourselves by rank or assigment. And she's at work. So, actually, they got that right.

The film seems to be very Motoko-centric, though. That's what worries me.
Also, no tachikomas? :'(

If there are Tachikomas in the film and they turn out as good as those in the animated films, I hope that they make some nice toys... I would dearly love to have a few units of Tach/Uchicomas for my 28mm armies :)

What I'm really hoping for is that this will set a 3rd series of SAC in motion - that would be awesome!  :o

I think this look like a fun movie.  I'm pretty sure it will be on my watch list.

Looks good to me so far. GitS is probably in my top five favorite films.

I think Scarlett is a very 'flat' actress emotionally, and in this movie, will be just right for the role.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

And here's the new trailer:

The story is going to be a mess. Like someone said in one of the groups in FB:
Quote
"So they are combining the original movie, both seasons of stand alone complex (there is an interview where the director talks about the laughing man) and some elements of innocence in there too?

this will be either a convoluted train wreck or a miraculous masterpiece."

But I still love the visuals. And we get a glimpse of a Tachikoma ;)
