A lot of scenes taken verbatim from the Anime there. Looks good but how much is likely to end up being just a live action carbon copy?

Original was thoughtful (though with some goofy bits) about politics and the effects of cybernetics. But this is Hollywood we're talking about. Notice near the end where they said something about stealing your memories from you? Kusanagi went from a morally grey willing participant to an amnesiac victim of "the system".

I guarantee it'll be more like the Resident Evil or Ultraviolet movies.

Not impressed.

Also, "This is Major". Did they think that was her name or something?

I'm stoked! I think it will be a cool watch with lots of eye candy and inspiration for scenery and miniatures.
Will it be a solid translation from the manga/anime...probably not. Will it be a good movie...maybe. Will it look terrific...HELL YEAH!

I like the visuals and the actions scenes look really well done.  I'm not impressed with Johansson's acting ability and I'll reserve judgment on the storyline until we know more.
