Odd.
I'm sure The Prof will check it out, but I think it's probably something to do with your email settings. Because I'm on Yahoo Mail and my LPL notification came through this morning absolutely fine.

And it's gmail too.

I got round 1 announcement with an empty message body. Or viewed in raw mode, it contains
Code: [Select]
--SMF-d79eecc5893bbb97bdbf8ad830606515
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

--SMF-d79eecc5893bbb97bdbf8ad830606515--
and nothing else.

Didn't receive round 2 mail at all.

Looks like some kind of SMF bug. I found a few results for related issues. Some of them concern normal posting, others e-mail. Suspected reasons include BBcode, unusual characters, and custom themes. This one looks relevant (SMF 1.1.x, e-mail), but nothing conclusive is achieved there.

Sometimes the notifications get through just fine, for example the "one week left" mail on 24th. Could it be that some characters like ’ (acute) or – (en dash) combined with output encoding already manage to break it? Also, how do you produce the message? Copying from a fancier office software or directly from a browser window may introduce all sorts of garbage. Passing it through a plain text editor may get rid of that.

Just guessing here, though. :? Can you send test notifications to a limited group?

Haven't read this whole thread, so apologies if it's been covered; can we expect an Excel spreadsheet Leaderboard? Or does this version of the LPL not include the Teutonic upgrade pack?

Meanwhile my notification appeared, just 27 minutes ago (13:45 local time, UT + 1:00 + 1:00 summer time) - and it's blank.

It takes some time (1-2 hours) to send all the notifications. Is it already arrived? Is it blank?

We had some empty notifications last year as well, no idea why, probably a bug in the software, there is definitely nothing fancy in the newsletter text, I paste it from Notepad.

We can makes some tests with a limited group, but probably later.

Yes you can expect a leaderboard in due course.
In the Admiral's capable Teutonic hands...  :)

First two rounds have been excellent.  Thanks to all the competitors on some excellent painting.

Do I detect more 15mm entries this year?  Is this a trend?

Thanks - I see (now) that you covered that point in the first post of the thread... so thanks answering that question promptly. Also thanks to you, the Admirals and the Professor for co-running it this year - it's never easy. Will be interesting to see if the number of voters pick up due to a little more prompting of the LAF community. It's certainly a highlight of my wargaming year.

Finally, is it possible to get a "both" button for voting? :D

That was tough!, it gets harder and harder every year as the entrants are light years beyond anything I could do.  This round was very good.

I got a blank notification too, but realised what it was without the text.

Email Notification:

Sometimes I don't receive one.

Sometimes I receive one, but it's blank.

Always, I do NOT care.   :)

The new round will start every Sunday.  I don't need any sort of email notification and if it helps with workload/tasks for Alex and other LPL organisers I'd prefer you don't send one.  One less issue to worry about.   ::)

I love the LPL and the level of painting is up and up every year :-* but I'm beginning to think the judging should be against a plain background. I'll probably be shouted down on this but I think it would be a MUCH more level playing field for some to the contestants where it seems the difference in the voting is based on the scene and not the painting. I mean is it a painting contest or a terrain/setting contest? Some of the painters here may not have the terrain or the extra time to devote to the setting while their painting is clearly excellent.

Just my two cents.....
