This area is meant to be rock, but I have added sidings to protect the track from rock falls.

I see, this is what I tought and what I stumbled upon. The sidings seem to be overlapped by the rock (as does the roof) and would therefore not stop any debris from rolling/falling to the line.

I have continued to add greenery and plants to the layout. The most recent Blog post shows how I have added grass, more green clumps and home made succulents to the layout. For more information, see the Blog.

I have updated my 'British' train crew figures to be a little more 'American like' locomotive engineers. For full details of how I did it, see the Blog.

Adding the crane. Ever since I first started discussing this layout with the grandchildren - they have wanted a working crane.

To see how I built my wooden crane, see the Blog.

I have been building some wagons to go on the layout - the first is this 'reefer red' box van but there are more.....

For more images and details of how it was built and painted, see the Blog.

  • But maybe everything that dies, someday comes back
What's the nominal purpose of a little box van like that for the miners?

"What's the nominal purpose of a little box van like that for the miners?"

Could be used for storing explosives or supplies, possible as a latrine! - But I modelled it just because I liked the look of the Model Earth Design wagon and thought I'd like to have one on my layout.

Sometimes it's that simple.

"Cos it looks cool" has always been, and will continue to be, a perfectly valid reason for many things.  ;)

I  have been given a cardboard tube by my Auntie Liz and have been busy building various bits of mining equipment from it.

A Stationary engine and a Bitumen tar boiler. For more information, showing how the models were built and painted - see the Blog.
