Been watching all the new releases from Empress on Earther's thread and finally succumbed and bought a pack to have a go at.
They are very nice models, wonderfully detailed, I'll definitely be getting more of them.

Very nice work on them (I like the cigarette packet).

Now the feed can has been mentioned, it is so obvious.

Lots of little details come out once you start chucking paint. Not sure if it is, but the standing M60 gunner looks like he has a dog tag attached to his right boot.

I may have another go at the area around the eyes, however I think I'm giving up trying to paint eyes; mine either come out looking like Marty Feldman after he's been given a fright or that they've been playing fast and loose with their mum's masquara.

Absolutely stunning work as always mate. I actually really like your basing; simple but effective for Hue.

Thanks guys

I really didn't know what to do for the bases so just left them fairly neutral for now, I may get some of those scale terracotta bricks for the rubble look. Bits of corrugated iron would probably look the part as well.

Can you give us some insight as to what you've used so far? My technique with Vallejo paste ends up significantly 'chunkier'.

Can you give us some insight as to what you've used so far? My technique with Vallejo paste ends up significantly 'chunkier'.

I covered the bases and the metal base built into the figure with some ready-mix Polycell Finishing skim (just because it was there). It's quite smooth and wet when first used so I dipped the bases in some fine powdery grit. Then a coat of primer. As the grit hasn't really adhered to the plaster it does tend to flake off a bit with handling which breaks up the surface quite nicely. Some watered down PVA soaked in tends to fix it all in place. Then I painted it with a mix of Vallejo 'Khaki' and some Mig 'African Earth' pigment, then a light drybrush with some Vallejo 'dark sand'.
I took these from a more over head angle, can see a bit more of the bases:
