For me the LPL is not really about reducing the lead pile, but actually increasing it.

Mixed and matched between entires of my `regulars` that I collect, i always have 4 - 5 entries of a total new period or scale for me, with the idea behind it that if I can`t even paint 5 of them without it becomming a drag and a heavy task to actually having to get them done before the deadlines, then no way in hell am I ever going to collect and paint a force of them.

A good way to experiment and discover, the points are second rate importance as I never will be in the top leaguers anyways.

Good point Tomshe - my first attempts at 10mm this week have been quite satisfying - could be tempted to expand my burgeoning collection...

The encouragement and inspiration to paint is what I like about the LPL. I need no help in adding to the unpainted pile. :D

question: what's the general consensus on re-entries in the LPL late rounds of stuff from earlier rounds. I realize its allowed, but in general how often is it done?
Is there a pre determined, (unconscious or not) slant that " oh I already saw that" against new stuff.  what are some of your opinions on experiences with re-entries?
Thanks!

There is an amazing bias against old stuff in the voting, I have noticed.

:? I would have to agree...They have to be of a very high level and be pitted against a new entry of quite a bit lower quality to stand much of a chance in subsequent rounds.

Those are my thoughts though there are plenty of others with much more experience than me.

Cheers,

Yep, generally you're going to get whacked if you have to reuse an old team.

Having said that, there was one entry by Hammers during Season 2 which seemed to defy defeat...  :)

The entry appears to have been lost when the site was upgraded, but perhaps Hammers might care to share...  ???

I did quite a lot of re-runs last season and it smarted. Furthermore, the lack of "newly painted"-bonus will make you drop even more.

Personally, I have no bias against "re-runs."  It's all down to the painting.  Also, as a participant, I realize the effort involved in fielding new teams week after week.  I won't hold it against anyone who can't make it.  Besides, the very fact that there is a bonus for new negates any voter "punishment" against a participant who fields a seen before.

While I agree in theory, I find myself judging reruns rather harshly. I won't vote against it as a default action, but will be wowed more easily by a new, interesting but not as well painted team.

Instead of allowing a rerun, I would try to submit a replacement team of miniatures shown before during the year. I have several replacement teams photographed with miniatures I've painted after the last LPL. They have been shown on the fantasy board here, most of them at least. Thus, no new team bonus and not really new to LAF but at least new to the competition.

Same, did that once or twice over the years, though both because either needed models for an entry didn`t arrive in time (round 10 looks to be going that way) or because I was just curious how`d they fare.

I would lean towards entering a new "old" team as opposed to running an old team.  As froggy pointed out you generally get killed on a repeat.

Greetings

I won't be able to finish Round five in Time. I have two of the minis finish (and they look great), two in work and the last one only primed. With the base work to do it would -normally- be a narrow thing but still doable.

Alas a few days ago I caught something in the eye. Not painful it's just irritating and I have some cream to apply four time a day. It slowed the work but work could be done.

Yesterday though I got an infection in the teeth. THAT hurts right now. So instead of spending my time finishing my round entry I will be off sitting in the anteroom of my dentist. Sad but it is so.

Prof, could you please use my entry for Round six in Round five? It has nothing to do with Tolkien but it is painted and finished and photographed.

Thank you very much
I'm off then
Jo

As the rest already said there's usually a heavy bias against old teams. I personally rather vote for something fresh myself as well. In previous LPL's there always were people dropping out with the same entry being rerun for a number of rounds (because you can't really exit the LPL even if you want to). It doesn't do the voting much good, but it also happened that a rerun faced another rerun which levelled the odds a bit.

I think the best method is what Phreedh does: submit an 'old' team that is new to this LPL, you miss out on the new team bonus but less so on the vote bias.
