Well I've lead an evil life, so they say, but I'll outrun the Devil on judgement day.

I will take up the other side, and say I like the theme choice.  I also think there was a lot of creativity.  I expected tons of fellowship entries, but there were actually fewer than I expected.  And the smaller scales, well, I think it's great exposure for them.

I DID have to struggle to find appropriate figs in my lead pile, though, but mainly because I'd sold off some batches of unpainted stuff awhile back.  Thank goodness I had those 15mm Orcs left...!

Burn the heretic!  ;)

It's not a bad thing to get out of your comfort zone a bit. This round had lots of great 10 & 15 mm figures I had never seen.

That's what I meant, I've just watched all three films back to back and bought some Orcs from ebay!
I really don't need another painting obsession but what can you do?  lol

Too true. All those great cowboys you painted in the past got me to start buying cowboys.  But I swore I would paint the pirates (and the Dacians and the Zulu) first.  Or some of them anyway.  :D

So Tolkien never had Prussian Dragoons riding on Wargs?

The guy doesn't seem to have had much of an imagination...  :)

They weren't in the films Ray, but you know what Hollywood's like for historical accuracy  lol

Apart from being A Tolkien fanboy in general, I really dig seeing some of our best painters expanding out of their areas of interest/comfort zone. It is really cool to see Cptn Blood, Frank, matakishi take on this theme with their particular styles.

@ Bugsda....glad to see you are coming around...the Hobbit and LoTR were very formative books from my youth.

BTW where are the 10mm figures you and Orctrader used for your entries from?  I may need to get some.

Cheers,

Blue

I want you to know Peder, I hated doing it  ;)
Actually, that's a lie - I have loved Tolkien since I was old enough to appreciate him, and also loved the Peter Jackson films.
Anyway, nothing compares to the horror of having to paint those zombies in LPL4!  lol

It is indeed a great feature of the LPL that people are forced outside their comfort zone.

Hmmm... Dare I start a huge argument by suggesting that from my observation of several LPLs, hardcore fantasy gamers actually seem a little less willing to step outside their comfort zone and paint 'historical' figures?  ::)
Yes I dare. off you go lads...  :D

Yes, Copplestone.

First time I've painted 10mm.  Quite possibly the last.   :)  They were in my lead pile though, so when the theme was announced I sought them out.

I like Tolkien's stuff, though I prefer the books to the films.  And with the novels, I prefer The Hobbit to LoTR trilogy.

I'm a proud-to-be Tolkien fan. It was my first favorite series and will always be an influence on me.
So I wasn't sad to see a Tolkien theme for a round  :D

I really wanted to add Saruman & Gandalf to mine, but time was running short.

I like the idea of the theme rounds, adds a further element to the challenge for interest.

I wouldn't even mind seeing 4 theme rounds instead of 3, placing them at 1, 4,6, & 10 maybe?
then there'd be more room to have 2 broad conceptual themes and 2 more specific, one for sci-fi or fantasy and one for historical.
