Shot-up Obsession!
« on: April 06, 2013, 02:36:27 PM »
Here’s a little report from two games a mate and I played yesterday, sorry for no pics.

We used THW’s Six Gun Sound rules.

Rivers of Whiskey and Blood!
The law abiding citizens of Obsession had had enough of the drunken debauchery that reigned. Under the leadership of Reverend McMurphy a few valiant town people had armed themselves and were going to waylay the latest shipment of moonshine from the bootleggers. Reverend McMurphy and three citizens with handguns had placed themselves in full view on the main street, with the sunlight coming over their shoulders, three more with rifles were hidden amongst the rooftops in case the situation got dicey. They clutched their guns in their hands and the hearts were beating faster, their mouths were dry. Suddenly, there was the creaking sound of harnesses.

A wagon fully loaded with barrels and barrels of the hated whiskey came into view, it was driven by a swarthy fellow and Ichabod “Ike” Bell was sitting on top of the precious load with a Winchester across his knees. He’d been told that the foolish reverend was going to try something, so Ike had brought six hard-cases with him, five of them were walking alongside the wagon.

“That’s as far as you’ll go, bootlegger! We don’t want your Devil’s Brew in this here town, turn around and be gone!” The reverends voice boomed out from a distance of almost 50 yards.
“Ha! Try to stop me are you? We’ll see how much that God of yours is backing you up! Forward!” Ike chambered a round on the Winchester as the wagon took off like a bat out of hell, pulled by four horses.

The wagon thundered forward and reverend McMurphy started to doubt his choice of action, Bell was not going to back off. At the last minute the wagon swerved out of his way, but Ike leaned over the side and fired his Winchester at reverend McMurphy!
“Take that, black-coat!” Several bullets slammed into McMurphy’s chest and he spun around and fell in the dust, still breathing but far too wounded to be of any threat.

“They shot the Rev! Son’s o’ Bitches”! Let them have it boys!” One of the citizens standing with the fallen Reverend shouted, and Hell’s Gates opened.

From both sides of the street gunfire opened up at the wagon, a horse tied to the rails broke free due to the noise and went towards the wagon, a bullet meant for Ike on the wagon grazed the poor animal instead, several bullets slammed into the side of the wagon but one of the riflemen on the rooftops took Ike out with a lucky shot to the head, he tumbled down with a ragged hole between his eyes. Another volley intended for the wagon driver hit one of the four instead and at the speed they were travelling, the accident was a fact. The driver had no chance to avoid the sudden jerk as four horses suddenly pulled in four different directions and the whole team crashed! The driver had a bad landing and cracked a few ribs, as he was dragging himself up off the ground he was mercilessly cut down by gunfire.

At this point, after seeing the grim resolution of the citizens, the five remaining hired gun hands got cold feet and decided to seek easier pastures. They abandoned booze, Ike and the driver in the street without looking back.

Notes: I played the citizens and my mate the bootleggers. He got unlucky and had at least two turns where he failed to activate his remaining troops, so he decided to call the game there and then, my advantage was too great.

Quick Cash in Obsession!
“Shut up! This is a robbery, no one move and we all can walk away from here alive!” The bearded man had a desperation in his voice but there was no waver on the gun in his hand. Mr Bowman, the bank manager kept very still.
“Rico, Abe, go check out the front that the coast is clear,” the man ordered two young men. A boy thought they looked odd and when he looked closer, he saw the robbery of the bank was in progress, the boy rushed over to the sheriffs office.
“They’se robbing the bank, Sheriff Frobisher!!!”
“Not on my watch they ain’t! Come on men!” He was a heavyset man and dragged himself out of the chair and grabbed a shotgun and some shells on the way. Three deputies followed him with their pistols drawn.

“Aww, shit. It’s the law!” mumbled Rico.
“Law, schmaw. His tinstar is a mighty fine target.” Abe levelled his Winchester and squeezed the trigger. Two shots found their marks and sheriff Frobisher tumbled to the ground with a bad chest wound and a busted leg.
“Man down!” The three deputies scattered like autumn leaves and fired their pistols, but the distance was so long that only a really lucky shot would find their mark. Two of the deputies emptied their six-shooters and had to reload.

“Sounds like there might be some trouble, Gomer and Ralph, let’s skedaddle!” The bearded man ran out through the door with the two others, each carrying as much gold coins they could possibly handle. And they ran straight into a firefight.

Shots were fired and returned from both sides, the deputies were mostly hampered by the long distance and the constant need for reloading their arms. But a lucky shot cut down one of the bank robbers in the street, and as he was screaming in pain the bank robbers paid the courtesy back in kind, one of the deputies bit the dust from a rifle barrage. The bearded leader was edging his way across the street with the loot in hand towards a horse, when a bullet blew his skull open, he was dead before he hit the ground.
“Aw, to Hell with it all,” Rico thought and launched himself onto the back of a horse holding his stolen gold, he was getting out of here.

The two remaining deputies were trying to cut off the fleeing outlaw, but his horse was faster than they could run. Some bullets followed his escape like angry wasps but none were close enough to worry him. The deputies returned to mop up the two remaining outlaws. As one of the deputies cuts down one of them with a lucky shot, he runs out of ammunition, and as he’s reloading Abe shoots him with the Winchester. The deputy gets hit in the arm and the leg and falls to the ground, incapacitated. The remaining deputy empties his six-shooter at Abe but misses all his shots, when he reaches down to the gunloop he’s got one single remaining bullet left! He kisses the bullet, reloads and steadies his aim, squeezes the trigger and… BANG!!! The shot went miles off target!!!!

Abe jump up on a saddled horse but the temptation for more is too hard to resist, he starts to untie another horse so he can get more money on board, he knows that the remaining deputy is out of ammo so he poses no threat… he thinks!

Either by Bravery or Stupidity, it’s hard to tell, but the deputy is not giving up. With a roar he launches himself at the mounted outlaw, who gets so surprised that he never has a chance to fire at the onrushing deputy. The deputy is using his handgun as a club and Abe swings his Winchester, but the deputy’s fury is raging uncontrollable! The horse Abe is riding has to take a few steps back due to the deputy’s onslaught and that’s when Abe’s concentration lapses for a moment. The deputy’s gun barrel comes crashing down on Abe’s head and there’s a sickening crunching sound as his skull caves in by the force.

There’s only one man left standing in the street Deputy Ray “Hardcase” Morris.

Notes: I played the Lawmen and was plagued by Out of Ammo rolls!!! He got one outlaw off the board with loot, so we declared the game a draw.
