Betula family? Their seeds look remarkably like little leaves, indeed almost like maple leaves...
They end up in droves in gutters in autumn (it is now in fact high seasons). I have bags, nay
sacks , of the stuff in the shed which I have rinsed and now use as forest litter, flock, vines etcetera. They are hardish and answers well to dye, paint and glue.
