Not sure how much use this is but I used SBL 070 Gauge (produced by Rotosound) for the cabling on this fella...



...and on these Hounds....




...and also on the gas masks of these chaps...




And on the 'bot here I used the same for the larger cables (near bottom of the figure) and the much finer cable was provided by NC 032 Gauge, also by Rotosound.



So, I guess you will want something at least the size of the larger string for vehicles.

I use aluminium florest wire for my needs, it's super soft and stays where you put it plus you can cut it with a knife.  
I sometimes wrap it with beading wire to make ribbed pipes and finned barrels and so on.

I also use mains copper wire it's cheap and I can usually find bits of it in the garage!

Look forward to seeing this thing come to life!

Never tried florists wire - especially not with beading wire, must look into this. Thanks 
I'm looking forward to seeing it come together too, as I'm not even entirely sure what it will look like! - thanks, coming from someone with your skill that's got me blushing.

It might not work for something like a barrel, but I've had decent results with one of those greenstuff rollers that'll spit out a ribbed string.

It takes some getting used to, and might not be the best for vehicles or where you want structural strength in the cabling, but if you want rolled up stuff it's a good alternative and far, far easier than bending guitar wire.

I have to admit I'm a fan of your pigs. 

Some progress - undercarriage stuck in position to the lower fuselage.



Note the strange clouds beyond the horizon on this planet...er... 

This shows the wire linking the wings, the cylindrical plastic section around it, and how it slots between the balsa strips on top of the lower fuselage.



Here's how the wings will look with the upper hull in place.



It's still missing its pilots' cabin in this dry run, can't balance it on top.
Here it is:



The red stuff beneath it will create a space between the cabin and upper fuselage section similar to the balsa between the upper and lower fuselage. The fin is a sort of a communications antenna, originally a flap from a model aeroplane (B-17, I think).

With the cabin in place the tall beastie (which I was very relieved to see stood up without any toppling problems on its splayed feet) looks very much like a seahorse, so it has a new name.
