"Nice work but curious question: what drove the choice of scale?"

The choice of scale was dictated by the gauge (the distance between the rails) - HO OO scale track is 16.5mm wide and this does not correspond to any known scale - but just an approximation. I also like modelling narrow gauge diesel engines. So 16.5mm divided by 18inches (a recognised industrial narrow gauge scale) gives 1:27.7 or 11mm = 1 foot.

Not your average scale gauge combination but since starting this project I know that I am not alone in modelling this or a close version of this scale/gauge.

During the month of August I have been giving regular daily updates on my Blog. Today was the last planned update, but check back and see some of the scratch-built items of clutter I have been working on. Full details on the Blog.

Somehow missed the latest updates. That clutter looks useful for my 64-65mm Victorian Horror project, which I think is about the same scale as your project.

Also have a look at the Lemax accessories range. They have stuff like bins, benches, gas pumps etc... that might give you some useful clutter and should be the right size for you (I use it too for my project). Just stay away from the stuff like outhouses as those are smaller scale.

I have an Italian Language book called Indusrie Fiorentine by Alinari which is crammed packed with images of 1900' industrial images that might be of use to you. I'll be posting links and images sometime later this month, but I recommend searching out some images.

The ground cover or base surface has now been modelled, painted and textured.

The latest update shows how I modelled the wooden fence which will be fitted to the right hand side of the warehouse.

I have glued the wooden fence in place on the right of the warehouse and started to add some items of 'clutter'.

This weekend, I added lots of scratch-built 'clutter' to the layout. I had great fun placing the items and moving them around before gluing them in place with superglue and producing these vignettes.
