Anyone have some thoughts on the usefulness of the Perry BIF range for the latter 1885 NW Rebellion?

Also, would Rafm work with Perry?

It depends how picky you are...the RAFM are small people!

Ah. That's what I thought. They are decent looking enough. But tiny, eh?

They're proper 25mm figures if memory serves. The taller 28mm Perry sculpts will probably dwarf them.

Well, let me put it this way....you can buy mine any time...for a low price ( if I can find them :)

They are rather small and not sculpted to the standards we have been spoilt with during recent years. They are nice on their own but not in comparison with more recent sculpts. The Metis would be better represented by Boer and indian miniatures from Foundry, Empress and Old Glory. I am not well versed with the Canadian forces but I am sure you would do better with some of the BIF or Zulu War miniatures.

I guess the BIF range could be employed i a number of "Victorias Wars" including the Crimea, Indian Mutiny, Fenian Rebellion and New Zeeland Wars to name a few...

They do seem a bit too early for the Northwest Rebellion - although uniforms in Canada weren't quite as new and shiny as UK.

Also I think many of the Mafeking line would work well for Métis types honestly.

The BIF are a little early for NW Rebellion, however as to their other uses:
Crimea - no, the uniforms were too different.
Indian Mutiny - Yes, though there are better ranges out there Iron Duke Miniatures for example.
Fenian Rebellion - most definitely
New Zealand Wars - maybe, though Empress Miniatures have this covered.

Mine will remain on duty in North America, unless they are required tp partake in VSF shenanigans.

Empress currently only have the 1840's wars in New Zealand covered. One day they may get to the 1860's, if we're lucky ;D ;

I'm late to the game, as usual...

Perry BIF are not really suitable for the 1885 NW Rebellion, but unfortunately there aren't too many figures that are!  Keeping them in Canada (or at least what is NOW Canada!) BIF could be used for the Fenian Raids, or for the enterprising, in a alternate history version of Wolseley's Red River Expedition or for the San Juan Island Pig War.

As for 1885, I've not quite found the right figures yet (in 28mm), other than Rafm which don't quite match up with any other figures.

I have a question which is associated with the original question of this thread.  When they first came out I purchased some of the BIF lancer figures in "stable dress".  I'm still not too sure what to do with them, but they were just too cool to pass up.  Given that they are in "stable dress" does that grouping if figures not have a wider range of usefulness, as that uniform seems to have been fairly common for a longer period of time?

Thanks in advance.
